I have a 95 zx (2 seater slicktop if that matters) manual twin turbo. Thinking about Putting the boost to about 14~ psi more or less depending on the responses of the comments of the more knowledgable members, in the next couple of months (no rush). Anyway i dont know what would need doing to the zed to up the boost safely. (assume the car is stock as). Am i right to think the stock boost a tt zed has is 9psi?(0.62 bar i think) I've done searches for threads about this.. Alot about safety boost, pinging and other shit.. not much about this. And if i've missed the tech section on it. Link me please. Anyway i'm not that mech minded. But ill try Can anyone help?
few questions, do you have upgraded intercoolers, is your car running ok. have u checked for error codes. if you answer yes 2 all of the above 14psi should be fine... u should really get a tune tho if u want 2 get the max power out of it !
I'd use an electronic boost controller (EBC) and it's also advisable to run bigger intercoolers when boosting over 12psi A manual boost controller or boost jets are known to spike (overboost) and just aren't worth the risk when running decent boost I may have both the EBC and bigger SMIC's available in just over a week, PM me if your interested (I'm in Perth as well)
For a stock zed 12 psi is considered safe. MOST zeds run rich anyways, except mine for some reason, tryed 14 psi pings like a bitch. going down the nistune path in a few weeks :zlove: Regards Trev
I ran 13psi on a completely stock zed for almost 2 years with absoloutly zero problems. I have since changed my setup to whats listed in my sig, but otherwise you would easily be able to run 12psi with no problems at all.. also I never used any specific fuels, would always just get the premium stuff available where ever I was... never had any pinging or anything. *edit* I was using boost jets too, but currently using an EBC
In my experience, MBC (manual boost control or bleeder) BP Ultimate and 16psi gives a low 13 pass Never pinged never failed for 12 months. Died due to oil starvation. I suggest a tune, exhaust and fmic to really make the most of your boost, made a big difference for me. Good for mid to high 12's and 300+hp
'89 Larger intercoolers, pod filter, upgraded exhaust, EBC and standard injectors. All maintenence up to date such as major service, egr and other deletes/bypasses and all boost leaks fixed. Was running up to 14psi without detonation as far as I could tell. Recently upgraded to a nistune chip and road tuned it so now running 16psi without problems. Either way make sure everything else is up to scratch. Would be a shame to snap a timing belt or something for the sake of a little more boost.
ok so.... ok so after hearing your comments i reckon 12 psi is the go? I havent checked for error codes purely becasue i have no idea how/what that is. Sorry i always use bp ultimate... Just what i use. Some may agree some may not. i forgot to mention it has a/m duel exhaust all the way through. so i need = bigger side mounts? / a front mount? = tune (before or after boost upping)? = Boost contoller? = .... something i've missed? *edit* what kind of $$ is this going to cost roughly??
Hey man Your car must be able to put out more power. When i test drove it i thought it may have been in safety boost or so. I didnt think it really had too much on the NA. Get someone who can test the error codes, Fix anything thats required. Then start throwing money at it. Full Exhaust Intercoolers UDP Intake Boost Controller Tune
all the pennys i have are going to go to the zed. but those penny's are scarce as an apprentice haha. Ok ill read the tech section on safety boost
