i called up unique autosport to book in my car to get extractors fitted and a single injector replaced.

a price of 1100 was agreed and i was told that it would be a long procedure that would take upto 5-7 hours including a dyno run, everything was cool i droped my car off at the booked date and went along with my eveyday tasks. As time passed on i called to check up on the car and see what was left, which was at 3pm (i dropped my car off at 9pm sharp) and i was told that my extractors were still being fitted and it is goin to have to stay here for the night, i was cool with that even after the slow service that they were providing. the next day i went to the workshop and was goin to pick the car up they told me that it was a long and hard procedure, i understood their situation but then i thought to my self why would these expirienced guy who specialise in zeds give me such a minimal time frame if they were not able to stick to it????? as time passed on my car was ready and set (mind you the dyno run was not done and injector was not changed) i had told them earlier not to do the injector because it was goin to take even more time which i did not have, but still wanted the dyno run! they give me a job card showing that the bill just for fitting the N/A extractors was $1336

not havving the right ammount of money i was shoked!!!!

the price nearly doubled (the extractor fit was meant to be 700+300 for injector and 100 for dyno run)

now i am very dissapointed with their service and do not reccomend them.
    1.agreed ammount was not done
2.time limit was overly exceeded and full work was not done
3.and i spent over $2000 with them and they could not consider a potential repeat customer, and i was planning on doin more with them.

i will deffinatley not be going back their for anything and i reccomend that if you do go to these guys settle a price and get it down on paper for evidence purposes and keep an extra double amount of money for what they do, just incase u get done just like me!!!but better off not going at all.....

if thats the case you DO have a legal case to recover the extra money and/or have the extra services done

the courts tend to find against the businesses in cases like this, but try to sort it out with UAS before giving them a bad rep on the forum and making the situation worse

    That price

to me anyway, sounds about right, fair bit off work involved fitting extractors to a zed. You'll find nearly every auto shop will never give a solid written quote, because they just dont know what they'll find. Hand shake and spoken word deals are all bullshit, the outcome (read price) is always more.

verbal contracts can hold up in court.. but thats why you get quotes down on paper, and even they they are 'change at any moment with out notice' but not for a set job like that i wouldnt think. finding a problem maybe but not an upgrade.

but it cost me $300 to fit my extractors, mod the exhaust to fit (was twisted) and replace a center bearing.

Thats UAS for you!! nearly every1 on this forum from NSW have been told been jipped

8hrs to fit extractor from professionals who are supposed to be the most experienced in AUS!? anyways even at $100 x 8hrs = $800.

That sucks man... sorry to hear but if you do a search like i just did earlier regarding this topic you will see alot of Zed enthussiates being done this way which is saddenning. :vomit: @UAS

I also spoke to you and said if you get unknown extractors form USA for left hand drive expect at least 8 hours to fit and can be more. As requires cut and shutting to clear the steering shaft, which was the case with the ones you supplied required. Also 02 sensor relocating and needed a longer 02 sensor wire, genuine exhaust gaskets and nuts and washers etc. We trial fitted numerous times and adjusted and refit so not to mod too much and effect performance. We have done a few but this one took a lot longer than normal. Everything worn out on your car and wet with oil and rusted threads and made it harder.

We actually knocked off an hour and let you take the car even though short of dollars for understandable reasons. We are booked out hard with happy customers and this is rare. We do not, and cannot work on fixed prices with the type of work we do and often goes over although sometimes under. Our estimates are often about right though. These cars can be so troublesome and worn out, and have issues.

Nice burn out you did, with your cold engine when you left.

This should be discussed offline. You havn't mentioned the fact that they were LHD extractors nor any of the other points JP mentioned. This just enflames the certain members and can give more negetive cred then is due. RBP.

I usually do my own car stuff but I've had the same thing happen with a shop a while ago when I was flat out with work and didn't have time to scratch my sack.

You get quoted one amount and it ends up being a different amount sometimes way more than agreed upon. You do have to understand that these cars are assholes to work on, really. Even professional shops, some of the most basic shit takes forever and a single little problem can add hours onto the quote. You cant expect them to work for free or leave your car in pieces just because it's going to be more than the agreed upon quote.

Think about what you asked them to do, fit the wrong headers for your car that required modification. Also ever tried to pull exhaust studs out? I cannot even think of a more pain in the ass job to do with the engine still in the car, if one snaps which almost always happens you now have a shit of a job trying to pull it out.

These cars are expensive to work on, Z32s hideously so. Out of 100 people who can afford to buy a 300ZX I'd say maybe 5 can really afford to keep it maintained.

Now you have both made your point, and both sides of the story have been stated.
I'd suggest as John has said, that mechanical work on a near 20yo car will be impossible to give an exact quote, as the history will largely be unknown.
We can all understand the shock/surprise when presented with a bill higher than a quote whether verbal or written.
As a business owner myself, I know it is impossible to have a 100% happy customer-base, there's just no pleasing some people.
I'm not saying you are as person of that nature BTW :)
Also, I am a UAS customer, and I have not ever been Jipped by them. I am sure there are many more happy customers than dis-satisfied ones.

Kudos to you for bringing an issue to the attention of the forum, and likewise to John for his reply.

Beyond this, if you feel more discussion should take place on this matter, please take it off forum (in person, via PM or telephone)
