    Hey guys

My fiance is about to buy some rims for her Soarer - the ones she likes are 17" X 7". Whats the biggest tyre she can put on a 7" rim? Ive been told a 225/50/17 would be good - wondering if a 235/45/17 would be too wide? Anyone have any idea? Roi? (stock was 225/55/16)

    Thanks,

    Pete

    Re :- Tyre size........

225/45/17 would be an appropriate size for a 7" rim but if she is buying new wheels why not get something bigger. Staggered front/rear in 8"/9" would be a better choice and plenty of tyres are available to suit at reasonable prices. If she drives like a granny then 7" is probably a much cheaper option

    Offset

Make sure she gets rims with an offset as close to 50 as possible. 40-42 should be OK. Any lower than that you get lots of tramlining and kickback.

They are actually wheels of a Lexus IS200 - and they are only $400. they have an offset of +48 I think. Ideally I'd get 8-9" rims, but at this price, I think they are a good buy (plus tyres are much cheaper) Thanks for your advice guys,

    Pete

    Tyres
    7" rims run a 225/50 or a 225/45
7.5 run a 235/45 with ease (and cheapest option)
soarers run the same patterns as a 300zx, however the wheels are too narrow, obiviously fit but just wrong (size 12 girl in a size 8)
they'd better fit a newer civic or something small car with big wheels.

If you have a 17x8 wheel front and rear you have the good option for 235/45R17 and a 255/40R17 on the rear.

    hope that helps

You might find that 7" wheels are not the best for a Soarer. That is a big heavy car - check the tyre placquard in the door jamb and see what the standard size is. wheels shouldn't just be about looks, they also have functions to perform and loads to bear.
