Hey All, Im New To The Forum, Used To Be A Skylines Australia Member But Decided To Get Something Different Anyways.

    Get to the point.

Just Sold My Skyline And Bought A 300zx Twin Turbo Z32 quite nice actually. New Paint Job, needs few touch up etc... but not bad.

Problems Im Having; the car is currently auto and is going to be converted in manual later on down the track but the problem im having at the moment is when i accelerate the RPM builds up very quick like its slipping.

i know that in a manual car if your in 1st gear and you take off and the RPM builds up too quick it can be your clutch or gearbox but usually clutch slipping. this is automatic so what could it be. the auto trans?

the other problem my mechanic tould me was some wrong at the back of the car when it was hit, cause i purchased it from a auction with a smashed door and rim.

Hyperdrive in malaga just did some nice work for me actually, new turbo timer and new studs because someone at the mechanic shop when changin my brakes didnt tighten the wheels back properly and the wheel came of the driver side front and smashed my brakes, disc and fender and all studs ripped off. so hyperdrive put brand new studs and fixed it all up for under $400bucks installed and all. the problem im having is my car slips, i accelerate in DRIVE hits 7 and redlines straight out instead of going 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 etc... well you get my point. anyways if i try hold gears by puttin it in 1st does the same and it should hold because i havent gone up or down. same for 2nd then you got DRIVE again. the engine sounds healthy, no ticking, no noises, air filter looks like it needs a change but thats something simple. this i dunno

    TAILSHAFT ???
    BEARINGS???
    AUTO TRANS???
ENGINE ISSUE - missing spark or cylinder or something... plz help
im gonna check my posts till my mechanic TREV in malaga at TREVS TRANSMITION AND DIFF REPAIRS CAN CHECK IT ALL OUT FOR ME ON THURSDAY but i dunno

the whole car vibrates and pits wont pass me over till the vibration is gone. its vibrating thru the whole car and hyperdrive said to leave it there for a week and they will check it out and possible could be bearing or tailshaft issue. the exhaust could be part of the vibration also but not that dramatic.

    ????ANY IDEAS GUYS????

if the trans is ****ed i just gonna drop 6 speed getdrag or hollenger anyways and something nice like Exedy Brass Button Racing Clutch etc... which i can get cheap of forum or even 5speed might do the tricks but im doing this puppy up cause you dun see many rollin round like skylines, skylines too common now thats why i sold it and thought get something dun see a lot of.

the other thing is with the engines - i oviously got the VG30DETT.
but there is ****all room to work in there
    any 300zx specialists.

    hyperdrive is good with them
    ovaboost wont touch them
dunno bout XSPEED & speedworks etc...

    anyone know

im gonna get a FRONT MOUNT, some boost, bigger turbos, dunno if im gonna convert it to single i heard some people do that and get more power.

    the other thing is???

can you drop a RB26DETT or RB25DET into them? or is there different cross member or whatever, dunno, im new with these puppies.

    but anywayz

    PROBLEMS

    vibration thru whole car
lots of smoke coming out of exhaust on the one side of the exhaust only the other side is only a little

could that be a gasket or something, exhaust problem, i know im gonna get a mechanic to look over it, just thought i ask here first thats all

BLACK SMOKE - its not BLUE. has a bit of white in it BUT MOSTLY BLACK
only done 63000kms, so it says haha lol
    VIBRATION THRU WHOLE CAR
and RPM BUILDING UP SUPER QUICK - I KNOW SOMETHING AINT RIGHT

    trans slipping or something

the other thing is when i brake the whole car vibrates as well and steering wheel vibrates and shakes and when i get over 140-160 the car vibrates like crazy and when braking even worse like the car is gonna snap or brake or lost control or somethin. i dunno

    PLZ HELP

hyperdrive recommended i do a dyno tune and diagnostics to determine problem with smoke and stuff but i havent had a chance yet

anywayz i post and see what hits i get back

    thankyou aus300zx team

Firstly welcome to the forums :)

As a first timer to forums its good to have a look at the Tech section and the search function, to see if someone else has had a similar case

Just a couple of things mate

    1) Did u take it for a test drive before u bought it??, sounds like there are some nagging problems, personally i have a manual and have no experience with them problems so can't help u much there

    2) As for workshops, you can try cypher (but i think they are not touching them anymore) but we are lucky to have forum member Tom aka Zrated, here in WA who a lot of ppl recommend including myself, i'm sure he'll be reading this thread and may prob lend a hand

Hope u enjoy ur stay on these forums, good to see another skyline convert hehe, and maybe on a cruise in the near future :)

    Cheers

    Mike

Firstly, your vibration issue is most likely a problem with your tailshaft centre bearing - an easy fix for most workshops that deal with Nissans.

I'm no auto box guru, but the problems you're having sound pretty serious and may require a rebuild or replacement.

The smoke may be a big issue, however we'd need more specifics on what operating conditions create the problem, ie. engine warm, idling, etc.

As for the vibration under brakes? Your rotors are warped. Treat yourself to a new set of rotors and pads and you should be fine.

Agreed. Perth Z Performance (PZP) is your best bet! Tom (ZRATED) is the man when it comes to Zeds in Perth.

Vibration could be a number of things, something sounds like it was rooted when the smash occurred. Many members replace their stock 2 piece tailshaft which is known to cause vibrations with a 1 piece tailshaft. Its also weight reduction.

Slipping sounds like clutch? Or more likely an issue with the auto box. Rip it out and chuck in a manual :) While your there, hit STS up for a RPS flywheel and clutch. He is going a good deal on them at the moment.

But don't take my word for it, get a professional opinion first :)

    Good luck

    Dave.

My first thought is boost leak. This would make heaps of smoke pour out the back and the car would feel like it has no power. It would hit up the revs very quickly too. Is it holding boost at about 9 PSI? If it's lower you've got a boost leak and/or you're in safety boost.

Mine did exactly this (auto TT) when an intercooler pipe came off.

Service manual also mentions timing belt not installed properly as causing this.

I don't know that the auto would cause this. Is the fluid fine/topped up? Have you done an auto diagnostic? Generally auto problems are with gear shifts or else it really won't be transferring any power. Does it shift from 1st to 2nd etc. at the right times? Does it transfer any power BTW? I assume there is some movement to the wheels. And did all this happen before the first time the wheel fell off or only after?

If it had a hard rear end, driveshaft may have been damaged. This would explain the vibrations and maybe the lack of power.

I hope you went back to the brake place and abused them for this.
The other thing to check, though hopefully hyperdrive did this, is things like play in the steering rack, tension rods etc. This would all cause vibrations through the car.

Exhaust wouldn't cause vibrations. At worse it would cause a droning loud enough to vibrate a little, but not that would shake like you describe.

Is the shaking only while driving or also at idle?

For the power, does it seem fine below say 3k RPM but after that you notice power seems to disappear? Or is it all the time? Where abouts are you? SOR or NOR? Have you driven an auto Z in good nick to see what it should feel like?

    check out www.hybridz.org

Does smoke only come at revs over 3k or all the time? At idle? In neutral but reving? How is reverse? When reversing does it feel as powerless (Be careful with this one haha) and/or smoke?

The over 140-160 thing I have too. Generally this will be bushes in suspension components. I've slowly been replacing mine and it's slowly been getting better. New suspension also helped reduce it. It's probably a combination of all the old bushes adding there own vibration.

Is the braking vibration only when braking from high speed? Or even if you brake from say 40 would it do it too?

And did it feel like ABS shudder or something else? It's probably uneven build-up on the rotors. Did you replace both front rotors at the same time? And did it occur before the crash? It may be the pads weren't properly bedded in. Or...it could be one of the other wheels isn't tightened properly. The rotors would have play and would cause the whole car to vibrate. When you brake, does it pull up in a straight line?

Sounds like your box is flaring up.

Due to the different bands, flare up is usually limited to a gear set like 1-2 2-3 etc. It's unusual for it to be in all gears unless it's worn to hell lol. Also, it will usually only happen just before changes and the bands adjust. Not always like hes having.

Will be interesting to see if it does it in reverse.
