Just curious what type of turbo timers people use and whats reccommended. I'm currently looking at a HKS type 1 with all those cool functions but not too sure whether I need to spend that much on a timer.

    Cheers

I've got a Greddy turbo timer......

still not installed, but will be soon. Basically its got 2 auto settings, multiple manual settings + some extra stuff.

You dont need nothing flash i believe IMHO, as long as it does the job. Remember a turbo timer will NOT give you extra HP/KW so dont spend big money on it. So shop around and find something descent and cheap. I got mine from the states and cost me less than $120 i think.

    Regards Max:thumbsup:

    I have Apexi = OK

The Apexi pen timer one I have fits really neatly on the
    panel behind the steering wheel.

Has A/F ratio which can be useful sometimes but the
auto function seems doesn't seem to work worth a damn...
usually just want's to idle for the minimum time.

I like the Apexi pen style too.

Also, where do people usually mount their timers? Any suggestions? I was thinking either behind the steering wheel or in the gap below my head unit.

I'm curious what a features a timer can have to be called awesome?

if it start off with back flips and coin tricks?carries on with a 30 second comdey skit?I would be impressed if it did a sharon stone crossing its legs why doing the smoking routine.....

timer is a 2 buttons device and if you lucky with a connection to the temp sensor.Have I missed something in my life.

BTW its a offence to exit your car with your motor running and the auto in park ...and with manual car with your motor running and the gearbox not in a low forward gear. so why bother with timer?

    Back flips would be neat.....>>

I don't know about the auto function in over timers, but in mine it actually monitors the TPS voltage and calculates how long it needs to run for based on how hard you have been driving.

Now if it did the Sharron Stone bit are we talking Sharron back then, or Sharron now?

lol :) I agree and ripped the piece of crap out of

my car as I'm not leaving the drivers seat with the engine running in hope that the turbo timer will eventually turn the engine off. Plus I've had one bad experience with my cortina as it run away on me when I got out to open the garage so I had to do the Dukes of Hazard climb into the drivers side to put it back into park. Luckily I stopped it before it slammed down the brick fence.

I always thought the purpose of a turbo timer was to let the turbos spool down as the couple of minutes the turbo timer usually runs for would not be enough to let the oil/engine cool down enough to prevent coking.

Plus it's just more electronics to bugger up and excess weight. It would be more advantagous to get a BA turbo 6 falcon turbo oil pump and use their setup to circulate oil when the engine is turned off and then the oil pump turns off once the oil temp drops to a set value.

    Yes I agree

I have both a TT and a BA XR6 Turbo. The Ford has that feature just hop out when you finish no idling down. Nowhere in the owners manual does it say let the turbo spool down etc. but for me I prefer to spend that extra minute letting it cool down, gives me time to do my hair

I've got the Blitz DATT, which is pricey at about $325. I bought this....

one for a couple of reasons.

    1. I didn't have an accurate boost guage (obviously with mods to the Z the original/std Nissan one is useless), and didn't want a guage that was similar to a huge clock sitting on my dash - personal preference only, not dissin' those that like that look.

    2. It has a 'remote' face...what I mean is, the unit sits behind the dash and hidden away, and the face (which measures 86mm(w) x 26mm(h) x 16mm(d)) can be put nearly anywhere without being too obvious.

It also has a peak display function, as well as other goodies.

You can find more info here.

My alarm has a turbo timer built in

Quite simple, but effective. You can have it running for 90 or 180 seconds, and you can end its run early by pressing a button on the alarm remote.

It was a small addon at the time of the alarm installation (I think around $40-$50), and it meant that I wouldn't have to worry about integrating the turbo timer with the alarm so the immobiliser would arm with the engine running.

    multiple preset times
    audible alarms
    back-lit button controls
a large dual color LCD panel (red/blue)
a volt monitor function to monitor battery power
an auto mode feature that adjusts engine idle time according to the most recent driving pattern
    a speed warning display
a two-stage engine RPM warning display
    0-400 meter acceleration time measurement
    stopwatch features for lap timing
holds peak speeds, rpm, 1/4 times

I have never heard of anyone having trouble with cops for having a turbo timer. Also the type 1 has a handbrake cable for security.

    Be careful!

When I went to install a turbo time I was told by my insurance company that it would void my insurance. This is because one of the clauses in the cover stipulates that the car be fitted with car alarm and engine immobilisor. The car must self immobilise and lock within 30 seconds of you leaving the car. This sort of defies the whole purpose of having the timer! If its only going to run for thirty seconds, you might as well just wait.

I dont know about it immobilising but

my car locks completely and if you try to drive it when its idling down, the steering locks and it will just turn off. I think most turbo timers when installed properly will do this.
