Hi I would like to know, can you replace the turbos without removing the engine? Yes or No? If yes, please post a link or something with a Tech article explaining how. Can't be bothered spending hours searching for an Aussie written article. Thanks.
Passenger side is possible, I had issues with my one and have had it on and off a couple of times. drivers one I have read its possible but extremely difficult, if doing both as is ideal when upgrading/reconditioning them take the engine out its better than the nightmare you will be getting yourself into if you dont.
Trust me on this one, it might seem like a better idea to do the turbos with the engine in, but by the time you have fiddled about getting to everything, plus all the swearing and blood and knuckle loss and the time its going to take, you would of been better off just taking the engine out and having more room to work with. Its not that hard to take the engine out and a lot faster, you only have to get the engine high enough to get to the 4 nuts holding the turbo in place and the oil and water feed pipes. The parts your going to struggle with, with the engine in, is the metal plate over the bolts that needs bending to get a spanner on, even with the engine off my car, it was a struggled to get a spanner on the blots closest the engine on the inside near the manifold. Even then you might have to modify a ring spanner, as the turbo housing gets in the way on at least 3 of the bolts.
quicker and easier to just pull the motor and save you self the head fuk of pulling them with the motor in. its to hard to make sure everything is done up nice and tight when its in.
I do know of one guy who put a set of 28R's on with the engine in. Nutter! Pull the engine and do everything at once.
what about unbolting the subframe and lowering the motor down a few inches to make things easier to get to? I havent done it myself but just an idea, would that work?
