    Ok guys.

I have a Unichip that is ready and waiting to go in my car. It needs to be wired in and tuned.

My question is that would I be better off getting the ROM reprogramed by someone like DR Drift for $500 -$600??

    Or put the Unichip in?

I have had the Unichip for ages and never got around to installing it.

Does anyone have any experience with either or perhaps both?

My car is only a neat streeter so i am not chasing massive power but more drivability and i want to run more boost and more fuel (obviously).

Car has stock injectors and stock turbos, exhaust from the dumps back and Upgraded sidemounts IC's

    thanks in advance.

    Stan

I got it from fleabay. So it needs to be hard wired in and tuned. All up i have had it quoted at $750 for install and tune.

    fleabay? ebay?

if it is an ebay chip be careful as most of the company's that sell them up the power but not safely.....its a risk i wouldnt take

if you w ant a chip with a good reliable tune yet gives you more power then i suggest you contact 90ttz and he can a good one for you. at least this way you know the chip will be a good one.

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

No Erik, Unichip is a piggyback ECU that wires into your loom on the back side of your stock ECU. it's fully tunable. I think you're referring to a "universal" tuned ROM chip to plug into your stock ECU - and yes i agree with what you said about them.

But, Unichip piggy back ECU's are fine. I would just use that, you'll have ability to adjust your tune whenever you want. If you get a custom tune done by Dr Drift then you obviously won't be able to adjust whenever you want. - also i haven't heard good things about Dr Drifts tunes too. try searching his name.

    I have a unichip.
runs me down the 1/4 mile in ~12.6 sec.

Perfectly adequate for a mildly modified car.

If you are going to go crazy, then get something stand alone or custom tuned.
$750 for install and tune is probably about right.

Make sure they show you the before and after maps on their laptop so you get an appreciation of what they have done.

does the uni-chip alter both ignition and fuel signals? I had a uni chip installed in my old verada worked well but was only a fuel contoller i later found out. Ignition advance is where you make the power.

On the subject of standalone ECU's, how many run Haltechs here?

I'm pondering whether to buy a Haltech Sport Platinum 2000...main thing going for it is it's nearly as easy to tune as a microtech, yet it's plug and play into the stock harness.

    red32 You talkin' to me?

Unichip's Australian distributor is APS in Baywater, so give them a bell and they should be able to tell you if it is a suitable unit (there are several different models, not all suited to the Zed).
IF it's a genuine Unichip, fitting and tuning should cost around $500-$600. Jedi-77 and I both used Dynomotive in Bayswater and were quite happy with their service.
I have seen figures of 70rwkw made available on a TT (Bellenium <- now there's a blast from the past!).

Yes is does. It can also run two complete maps (Like the 90ttz twin tune select), and also has other outputs like (Water / meth injection).

It's a surprisingly good unit for the Z actually, very under rated.

The boost controller it comes with (the X-Control) sucks, as the boost level can only be set by the tuner (not end user adjustable)
