My girlfriend,s 18ry old son wants to buy my TT Z32 but has only had his Red P,s for about 2 months so he is not allowed to drive it.I am thinking of rebuilding the spare engine as an NA for him but can this be done and how easy would it be.
questions is the spare engine an NA or TT??? If TT, you'd be better off buying an old NA engine and building up that. To make a TT engine an NA, you have to stuff around with compression ratios etc.... The NA runs a higher comp than the TT's, so if you dont raise it somehow, you'll end up with a very sluggish NA... worse than a normal NA ( i love my NA ) Also keep in mind the fuel pump control unit will have to be changed, along with other associated plumbing in the engine bay... I suppose you could do it but whats the point NA's aren't that dear and all the screwing around wouldn't be worth it imo.
All you would have is a slow NA (due to diff ratio and extra weight) that is still registered as a turbo. Not worth the hassle or money. Buy a NA, in 3 years sell it and buy a TT. Done.
trade my na motor for your tt? lol, wouldnt u be better off just rebuilding an NA motor then putting it in and selling the tt motor?
Just buy an NA then later, if it is needed, buy a half cut and do a TT conversion if the car is in spectacularly good condition. I would bet in 3 years time he will be flat out affording filling the car with petrol and will be a lot less worried about a TT engine by then.
lol i dont think anyone read your post correctly. You have a TT Zed and are thinking of selling it to your girlfriends 18 year old son, but it needs to be NA for him... correct? Na, dont bother 1) as others have said, it will still be regoed as a TT so he still can't drive it 2) Would be cheeper for her/him to just buy a NA and less hassle for you 3) She's a women. You'll do this as a gesture to impress her and then she'll rip out your heart and go off with your dad's uncle, leaving you without your beloved TT KEEP YOUR TT for yourself and make the 18yo brat buy an NA

it doesnt matter if its registered as a tt the popo in nsw atleast dont know if its na or tt my mate has a 180sx which was tt but he did an n/a conversion on it and he drives it everywhere and cops dont hassel him they have asked if its a turbo and hes like nope and shows them and they leave him alone
M8 Pull your turbos and manifolds, intercoolers and piping and add some NA zorst manifolds along with an adapter for the front of the zorsts, an airfilter and piping hit the key and your away. NOTHING else will has to be done of any consequence. It will run just FINE as an atmo engine. The difference in performance between it and a "proper" atmo engine will not be significant enough to bother about. Its all relatively easily reversable at a later date. The....ahhhhh...purists wont like it much!!!!!! L8tr E
