TT shopping list

Discussion in 'Non Technical' started by FatChickThriller, Feb 9, 2015.

  1. So after toying with the idea of another brand of 90's GT car, I have been lured back to the TT Z32. I am pretty set on a black 2 seater, as I was before.

This is going to be very much a project car. I will also keep my current NA as a daily.

So I am doing up a shopping list of all the gear I might need to buy for the TT. There's a lot of stuff out there, but I want to do this right. I don't want to spare any expense.

The car will be for predominately road use. I wouldn't rule out some track use though. The car will be an auto as well.

At the moment I have listed:
    KW street comfort coilovers
    Rota P45R wheels
    TwinZ rear diffuser
Labree or Meganracing exhaust, or maybe custom
Change to a front mount intercooler
    Sparco Milano racing seats

Anything beyond this, I may need to take to a tuning shop as it's a little beyond my depth.

Any other suggestions? any comments on my current selections?

    SAW and big trans cooler

  3. Ahh yes, SAW is essential. Thank you. I've also added a transmission cooler as essential.

Slightly odd mix of expensive v. cheap parts, expensive coilovers but cheap wheels. Choice of fairly expensive exhaust or very cheap option or possibly expensive custom job?

What's your intended budget for this & will you be doing any engine mods as well (beyond standard maintaince)?

If doing suspension also need to consider adjustable arms (camber, traction, etc), strut braces, possibly sway bars & hicas delete.

    Brakes?

Scrap everything on the list and start with some service stuff like 100thou service kit, plenum pull and byupass etc etc.

Good point there. Probably ignore the unrealistic odo and straight to the 200K service

  7. I have been researching part by part, which isn't the most efficient or effective way to do things.

I am not going through the build section and learning more.

    There is no set budget.

Engine mods are intended as well. I will need to evaluate my satisfaction with the stock performance, and go from there. Knowing me though, there will be some modding.

Adjustable arms (camber, traction, etc), strut braces, possibly sway bars & hicas delete. This is where I need a bit of help. I want to try out Hicas before I delete it. The other stuff, I really don't know what to look for to differentiate.

Brakes I haven't looked into. Brembos are expensive, but some Akebono or K-sport options.

Major service will be the very first thing that is done regardless of kms. Plenum pull is another essential.

Kill them with fire before they kill you with fire

Suitable upgrade. Other options are real man brakes like AP Racing or Stoptech. R33 GTR Brembos also good.

Thanks jamersss, I may take you up on that when I pick it up :)

Brakes aren't really necessary unless you're spending a heap on tyres too, stock are plenty strong enough to lock up your average 'performance' tyres and with decent pads are moderately resistant to fade. Just get a master cylinder brace and flush the fluid with something decent.

  12. What wheels would you guys suggest? only requirement is 5 or 6 spoke. The current wheels drive me insane. They get filthy so easily, and they are a handful to clean with so many spokes. Some nice gram lights perhaps?

If you want some nice 5/6 spoke wheels just use stock 350/370 Zed rims till you finish doing all the other work on your beast of burden. Mechanical and electrical should be your first priority, then body/paint THEN your Wheels/Tyres/Brakes.

    Try engine pull ;)

If it's a project, might as well pull the heads, skim, and do all gaskets.

While it's out, check the turbos. Fix. Replace.

If it's truly going to be a garage queen for a while, as the saying goes "do it once. Do it right".

re wheels, ignore the haters. If you've got infinite budget OF COURSE buy original Jap wheels.

But if it's a street car and it's just for looks, there is NOTHING wrong with Rota wheels at all.

My god people, it's a $7K car, and you want to spend the same again on wheels? :rolleyes2:

Firstly it would be extremely hard to spend $7k on wheels that fit a z32, r35 no problem but short of going one-off iforged you won't get close for us.

Work CR kai's, gramlights, rpf1's, there's plenty of really nice genuine wheels available for similar money to the knock offs. Or look second hand, could get a really nice set of volk gtc's for example, both my sets of nismo's have been seccond hand.

I just pointed it out as rota's are at odd's with other choices on his list (KW & labree), if getting them then you may as well just get AMS suspension & the megan exhaust.
