Hi there guys, I got my TT Z about 3 months ago. Its been preety good. Recently i got my air conditioning regassed and after that I've been having some problems. I'm not sure whether it is related or it might have just decided to happen at that time.

The car feels lack of power, as in 1 cylinder or more is not running.
It sounds like a boxer engine when its doing this.
Sometimes it runs fine, then it happens, then it goes away.
I suspect its something to do with the ignitors, i got my mechanic to check the plugs and replace them if necessary, he checked them and said they were preety new and they were fine. He said it may have been a loose connection with the ignitors but 10 mins after driving out of his workshop it started again.

What do you guys think it might be??
Give me some opinions and personal experiences.
I am preety new with the Z and am still learning so i would appreciate any help from you guys. I'm in Adelaide SA.

    Cheers:bash:

coil pack connectors sound like a good bet.

best thing to do is probably go to someone close by and hook it up to conzult and do a cylinder test..it will cut each cylinder off and check the drop in rpm etc...

    Coil

How much do they cost usually?
Are u talking about the connectors that go on the top cover and connect to the spark plugs?

Thanks for the quick reply man.
Also if you know anywhere in Adelaide that could check it out for me, that'd be great/

If it's just the connectors they are like $10 ish each. It will obviously be the one that is connected to the misfiring cylinder. Common problem. Try gently wriggling them around (grey connectors on top of engine) and you'll find one or more that is giving you issues.

Replacing them is a matter of taking off the old ones and simple pushing the wires into the new ones.

Another thing is, would driving it in this condition cause any harm to the engine. I have been driving it to uni and back because its exam period and I havent had the time to get it check, would this be causing more harm to the engine.
    Cheers

A little unburnt fuel in your exhaust may heat up your catalytic converters, as the fuel will be ignited there instead.
Just keep off the gas when it is playing up, and get it done as soon as possible.

100% ptu. i had this problem before. its 1 cylinder dies now and then yeh? when that happens ur car makes a full noise and lose power, then out of nowhere is normal again.
Try replacing it with a known working ptu, should fix the problem

Faaark... Sorry, just saw your thread!!! After 12 months of this type of occurance, and replacing every electrical component, my car has just been sorted and the original problem was definitely the PTU... unfortunately, and hate to tell you this... but Tektrader in Melb recently conducted a Group Buy for replacement PTUs, changing the suspect Series ! model with totally reliable Series 2 PTUs. They cost $125 plus postage!!! If you are able, I would suggest you return your recently-purchased Series 1 (I suspect) and have the Series 2 fitted instead. Totally reliable and saves a hell of a lot of other problems arising... just ask me, I know!!!
