QLD Top Gear Sprints - Sat 28th June

well unfortunately it wasnt our day today

the new diff has turned the car into an animal which I have yet to tame. acceleration is now another level of awesome if it wasnt already before. the car has so much potential now, we were very disappointed it wasnt able to be realised today. the car will really kick ass once I learn how to drive it.

we only managed a warm up lap and a half, a couple of 720s, and a flat spotted tyre from a brake lock up. after that, the new diff started going "clunk clunk clunk".

so we pulled off the tyres and let the car rest for a while and pulled out of the event, only to find that the clunk disappeared next time I drove the car!! weird.

taking no risks I got the car towed back to the shop. the diff is now out of the car, ready to send back to the diff shop to repair it in time for morgan park supersprints next weekend.

things I will have to keep in mind for next time:

1. go EASY on the throttle on corner exits
2. dont go DEEP under brakes!!
3. get used to the car before trying to make a race video!!

heavytrevy should have some video of me doing a 720 on the exit of turn 1.

we were right up the ass of what is usually the fastest car on track before it all went pear shaped.

Hope the diff problem is not too serious Pete, you did the right thing by not driving till it broke.

So you need a bit more rear grip eh, who does your suspension work? I'm not familiar with your ECU type, any scope there to get better control over boost in relation to traction? Then again it sounds like it just needs getting used to, except for the apparent snap oversteer situation.

also am looking at getting softer rear springs before next weekend as she simply has NO squat with the D2 spring rates in the rear. could help greatly with the snap oversteer, thats pretty much what it was like

 

and just to clear things up, you didnt do a 720....you did a 900...two 360s and a 180....simply awesome so much better than a 720 pete

Pete is the next Tony Hawks Ill post up my brief on how the day went but it was awesome to see everyone again and meet a new face, brissie beauty who i cruised down with and tonk--forget the rest of the name but he watched the massive fist fight at goodna maccas with me, the throw down was epic resulting in 3 cop cars and an ambulance

 

sounds like an interesting day

would have come for a look but i ended up having to work today..
are you turning the zed into a show ride now pete? can i be the first to ride
i have to ask thou do you know at what speed you were doing before getting on the merry go round? i think i was doing about 80-90km/hr straight sides that time u were following me and that maybe me pucka it up hehe. oh and i think i was doing about 100km/hr under braking the last time in the nx into turn 3 and put her sideways.

 

I thought you would have your hands full with the new mods. Good to hear the acceleration was heaps better, pity the diff gave out. Im sure you get it sorted for morgan park. The vid should be interesting

You were spectacular while you were out there Pete. I can't remember the last time I saw a 900 degree spin . I hope our entertainment hasn't come at a high cost for you though. Can't wait to see you put in a PB once you learn how to tame the beast.

It was really good to catch up with everyone and meet a few new faces, well, new since I've been back!

Hope the tyre doesnt cost too much Pete! It did look very impressive out there, first the 900 degree spin, then the power braking and smokeshow! Very different! At least you didnt come out looking like the Alfa Romeos out there! Ouch!

Thanks for meeting up n cruising in with me to Rory and tonksetz! Hope you got home alright after our issues getting there! How did the locknut go?

well it looks like what we thought was diff clunk was actually the massive flat spot on the front tyre!!! makes sense because I only heard the noise after the brake lock up. then the noise disappeared after we put the street tyres back on.

however having pulled the diff, there does appear to be a small amount of play in the output shafts that will probably need looking at. I will talk to some experts ie John Penlington and the Diff shop, and see what they say.

 

time to put the ABS back in?

Sup all. I'm home (finally). Tow truck didn't rock up till 4:20pm. I'm now glad I installed that DVD player in my zed

We got the rim off eventually and now i'm rolling on a space saver and ended up getting home at around 11pm

Nice to see a bunch of the guys again and meet a few more. Bad luck with the Diff Pete but i'm sure you'll work it all out.

Thanks to 14DYZ for giving me a lift when my tyre went bang and to John for taking me down to the servo and back to my zed again.

 

damn Tonto thats a late one! sorry to hear, man there was alot of mishaps for everyone that day.
