Hey guys just looking to get some more information on this unit with regards to the 300zx, was doing the weekly clean when I decided to have a look-see at the ECU and I noticed this unit.

The information that I've found on the net indicates that it will "lock" the system both electrically and physically, whilst keeping the HICAS light off.
This wording indicates that a HICAS lock-bar isn't required, what I'd like to know is if anyone has any first-hand experience with this unit, and if so are you using it in conjunction with a lock-bar or does it work fine without one. Any other information on the unit is also appreciated! :)

wow never seen one of those
i've been thinking of doing something like that myself
by putting a switch on the p/s reservoir sensor to disable the hicas
yes the light will be on but its a reminder that hicas is off
and yes this device looks like it is designed to work without a hicas lock bar
it may use the safety solenoid to disable the hicas

Very interesting. Late spec cars had electric hicas, also curious to know what year your zed is.

from my notepad file of useless Z info the part number on the ECM dates it as follows.

    23710- 41P03 (89/11 - 90/08)

Hey guys, year is 1990 as shown by the ECM number from stumagoo.
The hicas system itself is not electric, simply the unit. I've managed to find the installation guide where it actually shows that there is a physical lock installed as well. Link (English form page 13 onwards)
The hicas light is kept off by the electrical unit.
There appears to be two parts to the unit, electrical and mechanical, locks up the hicas without the need for a lock bar.

So a couple of shims, disconnection and a spliced in (hicas is uninstalled) switch.

Saves a few kilos in weight for those worried about that sorta thing.
