Hi all , I recieved a titanium key blank from my girlfriend for XMAS . When I went to get the blank cut the locksmith told me it was the wrong blank for my car and not compatible with my factory key . I double checked the add and it definately specified all 300zx z32 from 1990 - 1996 . The lock smith said the blank I received was a DAT15 and I have something different from factory DAT24?? . Anyone else have similar trouble or can explain the mix up?.

You must have a very different sort of key currently you use with your car. The Ti blank wether it is genuine or the recent aftermarket blank can be cut fine. Do you know where the blank came form? Post a photo of both keys will help too.

    key blank

Have you tried putting the blank into any of your locks ? as a blank it will of course not turn, but if it has the correct profile and is not too long it should go in and out of the barrel smoothly up to the hilt.

If it does that , then all you need to check that its profile length is not shorter than the one you use at the moment - it it passes all that it is fine and your locksmith is BS you.

check it against the entire lock set , hatch, ignition, both doors and glovebox. if it does not fit any of them, then either you have been sent the wrong key [ unlikely but possible] or someone has replaced all your locks [ even more bizarre ]

If your existing key has a red plastic mould then it is likely the 'valet' key. This key will fit all locks apart from the Glovebox (maybe rear hatch as well ?). If this is the case then it does have a different grooves down the side of the key compared to a regular black plastic mould key - to stop it fitting in the glovebox.

If you get the titanium key cut the same as your exisiting key it should work, as long as people have said the blank is the same size etc. of your existing key.

Ok I have tried the blank in all my key slots and it fits . The key i do have does have the Red 300 zx mould so may well be the Valet key ? .Did not try blank in the glove box but not that fussed about the glove box locking anyway . Will return to the locksmith with my findings and see if he will cut the blank for me . Thanks for the feed back.
