I'm assuming you're after tires yeah? I'll have to dig back through my emails to find my quotes. Albeit they wouldn't ship the yokohamas I wanted due to some resale rules Yokohama employed. But it was reasonably good.

However I had suspension items sent via them. Freight wasn't too bad up until customs reamed me for import taxes. They didn't do the paperwork correctly. The sum of parts were over 4 boxes with a value half of what I purchased from coz and those parts came in one very large box only and didn't get hassled with taxes what so ever.

Just my luck I guess, but make sure they do their paperwork correctly ;)

This is just a possible little legal workaround for tyres that "can't" be shipped yadda yadda yadda, seeing as we have an American who regularly comes on here, ask nicely if he can get them and then can he ship them over, and you pay him handsomely on Tuesday with Hamburgers.

You can use a USA based freight forwarding company to get around the sale in USA only restrictions. If the company will not accept an Australian credit card then the forwarding company will purchase on your behalf then add a commission and charge your credit card.

    http://www.myus.com/

    http://www.hopshopgo.com/hopshopgo/start-register.do?l=en&c=AU

Once you have signed up you get a USA shipping address. Then buy the tyres and have them shipped to your USA address and then forwarded to your Australian address.

The freight forwarding company shipping rates are often cheaper than the suppliers direct shipping rates. You can check the shipping costs on the freight forwarders websites if you have the weight and dimensions of the tyres.

If the total value including freight exceeds AUD $1000 then the customs fee will apply plus GST on the total value including freight.

If the total value including freight is less than AUD $1000 then there will be no customs charges or GST.

^ customs is based on the value before shipping / freight, not inclusive of it.

Yes, but if a customs event is triggered then the amount payable is calculated on the total value including freight. Confusing hey?

RedZedMikey RZM should now be DZM

Rob, if a customs event is triggered, duty is paid on the value before shipping/freight costs. GST is the one that is based on the total value including shipping, that's the services part of GST. 2 separate amounts that should be shown individually on the customs invoice.

I stand corrected, RedZedMikey is right, it is the value excluding freight that triggers the duty and GST.

The customs duty is often 0% on car parts but may be 5% of the value excluding freight.

The GST is calculated on the value including freight and insurance and customs duty.

    Example from customs website.
    http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page5549.asp

Example 1: An importation of multiple low value packages of goods (for example, six packages of video cameras each valued at A$200) (One consignment)

    Duty Calculation
    Customs value (Cval) (6 x $200) = $1200
    Customs duty (Duty) @ 5% of Cval = $60

    GST Calculation
International transport and insurance or postage (T&I) = $150
Value of the Taxable Importation (VoTI) (Cval+Duty+T&I) = $1410
Goods and Services Tax (GST) @ 10% of the VoTI = $141

    Total Payable
    Total payable Duty + GST ($60 + $141) = $201

You may also be required to complete a N10 Import Declaration form which will include a processing charge of $48.85.

Might just order two tyres at once to avoid it getting pinged for duty.

Nope that's about right for the price, as they go on weight and size.

These guys are located at Yatala. From their site - $100 for 4 wheels sent by boat.

I'm contemplating using them to ship some disc brakes over as the USPS shipping price came back at $700.

I'm going to ask tirerack if they can send them sea freight.

They seem like a pretty decent mob, and I don't need tyres urgently.
