I am interested in checking the timing and have a timing light with an inductive pickup. Unfortunately the Zed doesn't have any spark plug leads to inductively trigger the light. What have others done to get around this problem.? I thought about pulling the coil pack off cylinder 1 and trying to trigger whilst running the car on 5 cylinders but maybe there is a better way.

leave the coilpack where it is. you clamp the pickup onto the coilpack lead on cylinder 1, that is the cylinder on the bottom left as you look at the motor from the front.

I haven't tried it yet but I would of thought that the inductive pickup would need a much higher voltage to trigger the strobe than what is been delivered by the PTU. I'll give it a try and hopefully by adjusting the timing I can get rid of a backfire problem that has been plaguing my car.
    Thanks

just buy a short spark plug lead and connect it to the plug and the coil pack. problem solved

    Agreed

It's the best way to ensure correct timing. Any other method may show a degree or 2 out.

Yep, do it with a short length of HT lead.. The inductive pickup will work on the low voltage side but can be a long way out from the correct timing.

Using the low voltage method on mine it was 8 degrees out compared to clamping onto a HT lead.

    Cheers,
    Dave.
