8hrs and the kit from coz. Need a few tools that the normal home workshop might not have. Still cheaper to just buy them and do it yourself.

Maybe ask how much labour only if you supply the parts? Two days drive in/drive out doesn't seem too bad, I assume they wouldn't be spending 16 hours on the job but perhaps want to allow time to have the car there to deal with potential headaches etc.

The parts from coz would be about $800AUD delivered (complete kit). If they are sourcing the parts from Nissan AUS they may be charging significantly more for the hardware.

Just playing devils advocate -on the other hand they may not want the job and hence have quoted through the nose for it! Or they may have overquoted to cover their asses in the event of unexpected surprises. But if they look like an OK shop it may pay to discuss further with them.

This to me sounds very likely. If they are not 90's jap import/Z32 specialists they may not know what they are in for. I would expect to pay about $2k for a shop to do a 100K service, remember that will typically also include all the other crap like filter changes, fluids, full check etc.

Chrispy did mine in a day, with me getting in his way, so $2850 (roughly 30-35 hours of labour) is a ridiculous quote.

First time with timing belt covers in place a days work is fair. I have left my covers off so it is a lot quicker. It is not that hard a job if you are mechanically minded. You just have to take your time and count the teeth as per the service manual. First time is more of a worry and each time of course it gets quicker. Best way to do one is hold a tech day.
    Cheers Dave

I'd say 8-10 hours. Plus unforseens

Some places are so tired of people getting upset at extra hours spent and charged coz the last guy in there cross threaded something or something was broken etc that they quote a higher fixed price

I prefer the should be 8 hours but if it goes over ill all you and give you a good reason why method

Agree with Twin Terror, hold a tech day. Some snags and Tap King and you'll be sporting a 100k service in no time with some laughs along the way ;)
