Hey guys, I'm just about to replace the timing belt as I've got the front of the engine off to replace the water pump. Now, it seems that the belt that's on there is not on correctly, with the crank pulley lined up to it's mark, the passenger side cam sprockets line up with their marks (dimples on the back of the timing cover), but the drivers side's both look to be out a tooth with those marks. And the belt that's on there has no white marks to line things up with (I'm hoping the new one will).

The question is how accurate are the notches and marks on these items? The tech article says getting the marks on the belt and the marks on the sprockets lined up is the most important thing, but I would have thought it'd be more important to have the sprockets mechanically aligned to the dimples on the back of the timing cover area?

Also, I've long had problems with timing, as it seems to have been advanced 30ish degrees to run right, which makes me think that it's likely that the belt is not on correctly?

Does this all sound about right?

Yes, belt was installed incorrectly, the little dimples are spot on. If you get the 100K kit from K-Zed the t-belt comes with marks, makes it nice and easy...

I thought so. I'd love to find out who did the 100K service on this car before I got it, and never go there...
