hey guys i am in the process of changing my timing belt and all corresponding bearings too.

my current tensioner is rooted, whole 10mm bolt hole is missing so I decided to pull the good condition tensioner from the spare motor I have. in the process I acidentally undid this bolt

quickly realising my mistake, I did it back up. Still covered top to bottom in orange fluid.

question is, would this tensioner now be defective? or can I use.

Pretty sure that's just a pivot point. The actual tensioning part is the bit in the top left of the image. You'll see there is a rod coming out of it pushing against the main body which pivots on that bolt you undid.

    Should be fine mate.

    Exactly as above!

Pivot bolt - just do it back up to tension strength! All is fine!

Don't forget to check your tension adjustment after turning the motor over several times so that it settles first - I personally use the minimum adjustment setting (4mm) so that it allows for wear over time

Thanks guys. All back together as per FSM. Old tensioners and rollers were all shot. Much needed maintenance!

    off by a tooth

I think my timing is out by one tooth. To get 15 btdc with a timing gun I need to rotate my cas around nearly full clockwise.

Car drives fine however can be a little lumpy sometimes at idle.

If I rotate cas clockwise (retard the timing as far as I can) the car will start but stall.

I lined up all the timing marks correctly on my gates belt with the marks on my cam sprocket and the dimples on the rear timing covers and down at the crank sprocket. Rotated the engine quite a few times just to make sure all the dimples lined up after rotations.

Any quick ways to find out if the timings out before disassembling everything again? Maybe a bad CAS (hope so Hahaha!)

Count the teeth spacing as per manual.
