    I've just purchased myself a 2+2 300zx na.
took it for a short drive and by the time I got home she was overheating.

On investigating the after market thermo fan (installed on the back of the radiator in place of the clutch fan) I discovered that all 10 of the fan blades have snapped off completely :(

Not real happy about this and I'm wondering what to do now?

    Far out, that's unlucky...

Get a standard clutch fan and shroud. A lot of people have trouble with thermo's on Zeds.

And if done right with a good fan they can have little issues. End of the day, you've got the fan wiring, the relay's and the thermo switch (I assume). Buy a good 16" curved vane SPAL fan of around 2500CFM or more and replace the one that's snapped. It's just going to be easier than setting up a shroud

Considering you have an NA, I'd go the EL Falcon dual mod done by drz400y recently. AU/EL/EF fans are great if you have the space. Do a search for it :)

It was a 16" ICE thermo fan hooked up to a Davies Craig thermo switch. Unfortunate to hear it self destructed, I expected something possibly hassle free paying the $200 price tag for it & properly set-up, I never had a problem for the few months it was running. Just unfortunate.

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe I should fit a standard clutch fan back on there, you wouldn't happen to have the na fan shrouds as well would you?

hahha that is so random. are you running a lower splash guard. something probably jammed in there..

Stock clutch fan is the only way :)

    Greta idea.

Extra power and great cooling, and I think it works out quiet cheap to do.

no shroud... the rad support was bent so i had to break it apart to get the rad out.

the fan is yours for $50

My set up works better than any stock zed cooling system, cost sfa to do, increases performance and fuel economy and looks alot neater imho.

As Andy said, if done properly, thermos fans work a treat. In traffic on a stinking hot day, my temp goes down, on hard driver it stays steady, with a/c it goes up maybe 1 degree.

If you want a good set up, use oem stuff, not aftermarket, the oems must warrant these parts and hence tend to be alot more reliable than aftermarket, the have also tested the parts in many varied driving conditions, so they tend to perform better than aftermarket.

Goto the wreckers, poke around with a tape measure and see what you can find. It may be a little harder to do for a TT, but the clutch fan isn't the best thing out there. I dont know what is, but there has been 20+ years of develoment from the oem's since the z32 was done.

I take it the Nissan Maxima (or whatever it was called in Aus) mod I provided in the links above is not an option for you guys?
Heck it's an oem drop in affair. A very common practice over here. And dirt cheap as well.

I was going to do it but ended up buying a new viscous clutch instead because I kept reading about how people have issues when they use a thermo fan. I was going to set it up using a thermo switch to control the low speed and a TWD to trigger a relay to activate the high speed when needed. Now that I think about it though, most of the people that have issues don't use a shroud, whereas the maxima setup has the shroud so it should work well.

Yeah, I saw your Twin thermo fan setup so I went out
and bought a set of EL Falcon fans from the local wreckers for $50.

A little bit of cutting and they fit right on to the stock NA radiator. At
the moment I have just one of the fans running and have had no problems.
I'll pick up a second relay this weekend and get the other fan hooked up.

Most of the people who have problems running electric fans are driving TTs. There is CONSIDERABLY more heat generated under boost than from an NA engine under ANY condition. 300ZX turbos can easily get red hot with some spirited driving under full boost. Under those conditions electric fans with or without shrouds just will not pull enough CFM to do the job
