Having a few troubles with the z31. I work away and it goes dead by the time Im back.

It was so dead this morning that even the z32 with a 560cca battery didnt jump start it.

I eventually found a charged spare from my stash and got it started on its own but when i took the lead off it stopped. I know this in the past was a sign for me to toss the alternator since this happened to the z32 once but it also died while driving.

With the new battery so far it hasnt stopped the car dead while driving but removing a lead will killl the engine.

So is there another test more alternator specific to help narrow this down?

Has your Alt light come on?
    Got a multimeter handy?

Try disconnecting the battery while the car is running

    Multimeter

Start car and put a multimeter on battery terminals to check charge rate, + to +, - to - , should be about 12.8 to 13 volts, if not then yes your alt is not charging.
    Hope this helps, Andy

you can also take it to a auto elec if its out of the car, and it takes them 2 seconds, they bolt it down and check the current and voltage, and if its working :p
