Wondering if anybody knows why my temp gauge doesnt work properly? At maximum temp it only reaches just over 1/4 temp and takes ages to get there (10mins +). I have replaced the thermostat (thinking that was the problem) as well as the temp sender and the temp sensor.

    Cheers

    Dont trust the

temp gauge, there notoriously inaccurate, and to my knowledge cant be repaired, after market is an option
and k/zeds temp warning device, in G/B

Test the old thermostat in hot water

    Use a 0-110 degree C thermometer.

Thermostat should start to open at 76.5C and be about 10mm open at 90C

    2nd hand guage available ...

... if you want it @$22. I can pick up, pack carefully & post for around $5.

NB: Whole cluster only $55 but postage would be BIG.

Dunno if I can test it ....?

Send me an E b4 thursday as I'll be going past the wrecker's yard anyway.

Would it be possible to replace

the existing temperature gauge with one of these?
    Dimensions are 60(W) x 34(H) x 14(D)mm

If you could make a round plastic cutout with a rectangular hole you could replace the existing one altogether.
It is capable of reading temps from -50c to +150c

Couple of potential issues I can think of...

    1) LCD might not display well in the high temperatures encountered when a car is parked out in the sun for a couple or hours. They tend to wash out and the LCD screen can suffer irreversible damage.
    2) Will it be easy to adapt it so it reads the existing signal coming into the instrument cluster?
    3) Not sure if it has back lighting.

It would be nice to have a temp gauge thats functional. It also has an alarm which you can set! Not much info on the alarm though.

It can be purchased from Jaycar. Here is the direct link

I have this guage installed and would not recommend it

as the probe cannot easily be inserted into the cooling system and therefore is only measuring ambient under bonnet temps. Also can't be wired into car power so you have to press the switch on the back to activate it each time (internal battery).

Mmm, I'm sure you could wire it to the car's power

if you use one of those little voltage regulators, I wonder if it would remain on then?

Apart from those two issues you mentioned is it good?
What about back lighting, does it have any?

why not get a pressure gland and fit it to one of the threads on the plenum

awesome for monitoring intake temps. Bit of a write up on www.autospeed.com.au

Dont trust the stock gauge, go get a Autometer or Autogauge

electrical one and get the sender tapped into the water pipe or in the hose with one of the alloy adapter pipes. Tells the story more accurately and know these temps is very important in any turbo vechile. My guage sits in the felt panel just to the right off the ignition key/switch. Had to cut into the panel for a nice fit and a little in the panel behind but is worth the $80 to look down and see whats going on.

You better stop calling me that

or I'll end up being chased by gold diggers :). Perhaps it would help if I mentioned how quickly my bank account is depleting.

I'm a Zed owner with no job that just returned from an extended overseas holiday :( still enjoying myself :)
