I just realised that I really really wanna do an oil change :D Yes I've searched and found some very technical and interesting stuff about oil and molecules etc but I haven't done an oil change myself on this car yet, it's always been done by a mechanic.

I just wanna know where and which oil and filter to get(I don't wanna spend heaps but super cheap is probably too cheap??? I dunno)

    Thanks :zlove:

Super Cheap is okay but a lot of their stuff is junk but they have

Ryco oil filters which are middle of the road....avoid Valvoline > The filter you need is a Ryco Z145A ($14) from memory, and a good oil is Penrite Semi synthetic HPR 10 (10W-50) for under $30.

Having said all that watch out for all the differing opinions that will shortly launch:LOL::LOL::LOL:

But those are good all round products without going overboard.

    Regards John

I have run Valvoline oil filters >>>

for nearly 120,000km over 4½ years on my TT with no oiling related problems whatsoever. In fact the upper plenum has never been off my car during that period, and nothing mechanical has gone wrong with the motor. This is in a stock TT motor with probably around 200-250,000 k's in total.

I am perfectly happy to recommend Valvoline filters, have organised a group buy for them in the past, and the opportunity is there to do it again.

Basically you get what you pay for and the reason why they were so

cheap initially and probably still are was that they had no bypass valve. On a cold day the oil could be so viscous that it couldnt get past the filter fast enough to lube the engine, so your engine was starved of lubricant until the viscosity decreased somewhat.

Im not saying by that that no oil got through but it would have been a reduced quantity.:(

They had poor quality non return valves . When you look at the top of the filter you will see a ring of holes with a rubber flapper... thats to stop the oil in the filter from backwashing or syphoning back to the sump  and cosequently dragging all the loose crud back too!

So being cheap I guess the paper was too as well and that being the substance of any filter you might as well not have one.
Even some outboard motor manufacturers say you will void your warranty if you use their outboard oil!

So you may save a dollar or two but in the long run you pay for it.
:( Just yesterday a workmate was telling me how he was having his new car serviced and he thought he could get the service done cheaper at another place so he took it there.
But after it was serviced the next few mornings when he started the car he noticed the engine knock and rattle substantially, He checked the filter and knew other than the oil it was the only thing that was different so he changed it with a Ryco and the noise stopped.

    regards John :cool::thumbsup:
