VIC tech day 27th of june

just back home...

we had a nice and the biggest tech day today.

nice BBQ ,drinks.

and the new member as well.

Just got home from Rod's, was great to get out of the house and meet some members and of course see the usual Melbs crew and talk some shit!

Rod did a great job as host, there was plenty of food and drink, which naturally got raped by all the members, lol!

Would have stayed longer, but Joanne was getting over watching us pull Rod's plenum out!

For those who don't know me, i'm the sexy beast in most of the plenum pics, lol!

just wanted to get on and personally thank you all for coming. it was such a good day and the 15 car turnout was great. made my day !

hosting this was a great experience to meet you all. it was awesome to see all the zeds out and being worked on, and such a great bunch of blokes (and gals) to talk to, cant wait to get out and about to do another

few weeks when the plenum is back on

from just socializing to being in martins monster of a TT. i loved every second of the day all.

special thanks are coming your way kirill, doug and peter. without you guys the plenum pull would never have happened, adam for the conzult checks, also you martin for trying to flock all to the shed haha!

Just another day in Paradise...

Rocked up with DREDZ at dawn-o'clock (about 9:30) to find AdamZX parked outside the correct street number - of the cross street! We looked around and found the correct house and woke them all up (Rod (mr zed x) only got home from work at 5:00am). Anyway, put DREDZ up on ramps all prepared to take off the rear bar so I could find the wiring to reconnect the numberplate lights which had been disconnected for about 2 years, since the last visit to the panel shop. Took out the center interior boot trim, and found this connector thingy on the rear bulkhead, which I'm sure wasn't there last time I looked, and it looked just like the rear plate light connector. So I joined the two, and what do you know? Lights worked! So my half day job took about 30 seconds.

Took DREDZ off the ramps and packed all the tools away. Then I adjusted the gap between the brake master cylinder and the Chili brake brace, and my day was done. By this time many others had turned up (Craig (mr zed x Dad) reckons there were 16 Zeds there for the day).

Big gabfest ensued, with both old and new members: newbie Dave, another senior citizen, with his nice silver slicktop half Veilside (front and sides); Fleming; MartiniZ; a couple of Michaels; finally caught up with the famous Kirill; Baroo (hang-on, I thinks I've met him before, somewhere); and all the others! It's great to be able to put faces (and all the rest) to forum nicks! Pity I can't remember the names (I wonder if I have insipient memory loss? (I forget the name of the disorder)).

Meanwhile, Adam is running around the place ConZulting any Zed which was stationary for long enough to plug into his laptop.

By now it's mid afternoon, and we decided time is ripe to accomplish the task for which the day had been set aside, ie, ripping the plenum off Rod's nice gunmetal Zed. PB and Kbro tackled the bits on top, the coil-pack and injector connector removal, with Rod looking on anxiously (sometimes - shoulda paid more attention, mate, hope you can remember enough to get it all together again!). About this time I jumped in and applied my totally inexperienced hand to the job, disconnecting the stuff alongside the pax side of the plenum (next time, I'll work on the drivers side and combine the two experiences into a cohesive whole). Spent around half an hour trying to remove the big mother hose between the rocker cover (PCV hose?) and the underside of the plenum to no avail. Then Alex (BADXTC) grabs this big mother screwdriver and ejects the hardpipe elbow from the rocker cover in 2 seconds. Doncha hate that (I suppose it helps that he's done it before once or twice!) Loom detatched, water hoses off, undo bolts holding EGRs and trial removal time. Whoops! Still got some stuff connected at the back.
A few more hands containing the requisite knowledge are applied and at last the plenum of off!
Not terribly difficult, but 'struth, you need to know what you are doing.

Sometime during this procedure, Dave had to leave, so we played musical Zeds for about 15 minutes. Then it was back to the task.

Now Rod has some time to replace/clean the injector connectors, get the injectors cleaned, and do all the other stuff which requires a plenum removal, I'm sure there will be another Tech day soon to reinstall everything.

Well, today I learned someting new about the Zed, had some fun, and really enjoyed the social side of things. See you at the next episode, Guys!

And mic300zx, what were you on? Your early pics were great, but the later ones are all over the place. You need to learn not to jerk the camera button. Nice pics, though

Yeah, Michael, I realised it was a phone camera, all I'm saying is, use a steady pressure on the button to get good pics, rather than the "OMG, that's a good shot! Clank!" approach. The early ones show that you (and the 'phone) can do it, just take a little more care!

That said, if you hadn't taken the shots, there wouldn't be any!

Had a good day, thanks guys! Rod, you were an excellent host and you have very cool parents btw.. Great to see some familiar faces again and some new ones too thanks to chris and mike for fixing my timing and alex too for scaring the hell out of me (and demonstrating some cool tricks at the same time!)

Hopefully the next event will be a cruise!! Look forward to catching up with you all again soon :zlove:

Thanks again for having us, was an awesome day, will definitely roll around next time, there are plenums that are waiting to be put back on lol!
(ps don't forget to add the plenum gasket to your to buy list)

Had a great chat with your old man, he's from the oldschool, so we had a chat about old muscle cars.

Just a quick note, I am still amazed at how great your zed looked, paint and overall appearance was excellent, looks great in photos, but much better in person, makes me want to keep my TT and spray it gunmetal! Also, the late model tail light conversion came up VERY nice, I heard a lot of good feedback on the forum, but didn't realise how close they look to the real thing, almost indistinguishable.

This was Joanne's first tech day, so she got a bit exhausted from standing around looking pretty, next time i'll get her to twist some spanners!

Also a quick thanks to Peter and Doug for being my partners in crime and lending a much needed hand to the plenum removal.

Another big tech day and i loved every minute of the day i was there. Thanks Rod for hosting i had a blast and seeing all the zeds parked on your front lawn was breathtaking to say the least.

My day started off with me getting to rod's place at 9:10am with no1 else there yet. I didn't realise there were 2 houses numbered 3 on Rodney s street so was parked at the wrong house until Doug (red32) arrived at 9:30am I had been trying to call rod, but we found out he was asleep after a late night/morning work shift at crown for rod and he was dead to the world till we woke him up. Anyways mic300 was the next to arrive at 11:30am or so and then it was just a slow build up of zeds as the day pasted on. I was on a mission to check as many zeds with Conzult as i could. It was a bad day for knock sensor codes and newbie Dave's silver slicktop ended up with the worst recorded figures from conzult. knock sensor, only 1 cylinder firing properly and i think o2 sensors needed replacing. I also spent alot of the day going back and forth between socialising groups discussing all kinds of zed related stuff and what not. I unfortunately had to leave at 3pm due to work commitments. I did take so photos though, hope you enjoy.

looks like i missed a good tech day. my last exam is on tuesday though, so i should be able to make it to the next one in 3 weeks.
