Hi Guys, further to my recent posting banging on about my 100 klm service job I was proud of doing myself, well, drips of oil have appeared on the garage floor and a quick under the motor inspection confirmed my worst fear, yep coming from the front area and most likely a seal not put on right and the whole lots gotta come apart again.
I really hope that I haven't scored a seal placement in getting the old ones off... put the new belt on as a preventative maintenance thing and ended up with a problem...pahhhh.
Anyone noticed a change in vibration at certain revs after putting on a UD pulley ? I am getting a strange one at 4000 rpm it goes rough through the low 4ks and smooths out again around the 5k mark and sounds sweet up to the red line, but ariound 4 the whole car vibrates which it didn't do before.... I really feel like I goofed...

    I didn't notice.....>>

Any strange vibrations with my car after my pulley was installed. Sorry to hear you have to break out the tools again.

    Oil leaks

I won't say working on cars should be left to professionals.
Was you car leaking before major service? We have done a few where this was the case and cam and crank seals were changed and still leaking as it was also one of the variable valve control hydraulic cam pulley's which can leak. Seals can pinch though and not seat properly if installed incorrectly. Re the vibration I don't have torque specs handy but, very tight, often these are not done up properly and if you don't have a big torque wrench, braket bar or impact gun, then it is not tight enough. Your car may have issues though and the lighter NON harmonically ballanced alloy pulley is now no longer absorbing this resonance. I have heard of a few vibration issues after installation of the lighter pulley's although normally no probs.

are you sure its a vibration?

or is it just the sound of pinging under load?Sorry to hear or the leaking thats a nightmare i was afraid of when doing mine but so far ive been lucky. When i did my 100k service with the underdrive pulley, i noticed some changes happened. Before i had the pulley on i had my car dynoed and there was no pinging evident but after the 100k service i noticed an instant change in engine noise as i drove around. Being a little worried i booked my car in for a tune at unigroup and what do you know my car was pinging mildly most of the way up to 5000rpm. with a small adjustment of the CAS, all was good again.I think when i was putting the CAS back on i must of not put the CAS back on the original spot but few others on the forum have also needed timing adjustment to get pinging sorted out after installing underdrives.
Maybe this is whats happened to yours. But if you vibrations is very obvious then maybe your pulley wasnt tightened enough like Unique Zed said.
    Hope this helpsMichael=)

    I noticed..

some extra vibration through the dash at around the 4000-5000rpm mark too. Kinda annoying. Will have the underdrive pulley checked/re-tightened to make sure.Just noticed that you and I have auto boxes and we get the vibration, yet those that have replied saying they have no vibration have manual boxes. :?) Maybe that has something to do with it?Cheers

    No leaks before

I had no leaks before, and since taking off everything. there was a misting of oil all over the outside of the cover plates and over the belt housings interior. I am tending to think it may have been the cam intake sprocket cover not sealing properly despite using new seals and greasing them before fitting, as it is spinning so fast under pressure it would spray like a jet. Ithink if it were the seal itself there would only be a dribble fron the seal itself, there again if the seal is leaky on the inner it would maybe run along the shaft and spin off due to centrifugal process. Bit of a mystery, so maybe the best thing to do is for me to get 5 new seals, and 2 new seals for the intake sprockets, and get a mobile mechanic in to change them and fit the intake sprockets and I will take over and put it all back together again. That way I can be sure it has been professionally done.
