Well guys. You all missed a sensational event. Really well organised and set up I have to say.
There were a few grumbles about the gate fee which a certainly get, but thats the way shite happens.

Fine food, wine and other stalls along with almost continuous live music from the '60's period made for a really nice day aweay from the automotive lushness.

Im now sorry i didnt get out there well before we did on Sunday morning as there was so much drool/erection inducing machinery on static display as well as some amazing machinery from a couple of decades ago on display AND in the speed runs thanks to Sauber/Mercedes, Porsche, Arrows, Lotus and on it goes!

I was nearly moved to tears at the sight of Graham Hill's Lotus 39 GP open wheeler raced at Longford in the later '60's. It looked as if it was just raced, put on the trailer and then wheeled out again!
No wings, big treaded tyres and the magnificent Cooper Climax engine in the back... OMFG! Drool drool drool!

Eddie Cheever's 1989 Arrows/Megatron F1 car in all its glory for me to actually touch and slobber over! I was close to boning up over that car..............
Gee those older turbo F1's are beautiful "looking" cars. Low and wide with very simple bodywork and aero. They look so nice and clean compared to the recent stuff covered in little strakes, winglets, dams and barge boards....yuk!
prolly why I like the older ChampCars I spose.

The Sauber/Mercedes and Porsche Le-Mans cars just left me open jawed and the sight, smell and sound of the 1000Hp+ turbo Porsches doing some relatively slow demo runs down the "Flying Mile" is something not easily forgotten!
Rarely does anybody see such clobber in the flesh let alone flailing down the track. Sadly, due to suspension limitations, they were hobbled to around 200kph passes on the (for them) rough rural roads, which would prolly be 3rd gear!!!!!!!!

Porsche also sent out the engineers who fettled those cars initially to life back in the day to screwdriver them as well ON the day and they were willing to chat about these most beautiful and brutal race cars!

There was a plethora of older period saloons from the era such as Holden 215's/FJ's EH's and so-on, Ford Mustangs, Camaro's, Cortina's, Mini's, Jaguar's and various specials and one-offs.

Also a large spread of modern cars, lambo's, ferrari's, some fast Japper turbo stuff.... blah blah blah!

Plenty of cool bikes as well.

I did take some pix of particular faves but I have not uploaded them yet.

    Suckers!!!!!!

I had to cut a story to do with the event for 730 Tas on Friday. Craig was sent to get the overlay & when I spoke with him on the phone he was a little disappointed. Maybe there wasn't as many cars on the Friday? Glad to hear otherwise though, hopefully it will happen again.

BTW: Evan, I think your post should be in Post Event ;)

Jono. yer it should be but it seemed easier here is all! I was really just trying to rub it in if you know what I mean!!!
Sun was def the best day AFAIK.
Plans are well in hand for next year so im led to believe. Seems it may become a regular event.
There is miles of room and there could be plenty of other stuff included with a little imagination from the organisers!!!

He was disappointed?? What was he expecting? There were LeMans winning cars doing reasonably quick runs with the original engineers and such on hand happy to discuss all the workings with anyone interested enough to ask, the 407km/h Sauber car, Bathurst winning cars (the one that won from last place in '95 at that), a bike pulling 290km/hr passes at 700m from a standing start, over a dozen of the cars and drivers who originally raced at Longford back in the day all going flat out, heaps of American and Australian muscle, both old and new, an hand full of supercars, original (non-replica) Cobras and GT40s doing full speed passes and to cap it all off I beat an R33 GTR in Dad's S14! The show and shine was a fair bit bigger over the weekend but as far as cars actually running on the event there were not any that didn't run on friday.

Also, how much footage do you have? Any way of getting a copy of it? I think Dad would love to see it, he was there back in the day and had a wonderful time going back. Happy to pay the going rate over or under the counter. :p

I think they have got it booked in at least for the next 2 years, this year was a trial run to see if they could make it work and they were quite happy with the results they got, lots of people through the gate, especially on saturday. It was much bigger than the first Goodwood event in '92 so that was a good sign. One thing they are hoping to be able to do is get access to more of the road next year to give the cars more time to build up speed and see some even quicker runs...

    Hi Peter,
Not much footage was shot at all on the day. The crew weren't there long & the footage they did get was focusing on one guy who the story was about. I was so stretched to colour in the story I was cutting I used pretty much every shot that was sent down to me. Not good, an editors worst nightmare & it happens all the f*#king time (but that's another story)! Sorry.

No problem, I think a few of the Melbourne stations had crews down there the whole weekend so I might see what they have.
