Just wondering, does anyone know if the Targa Tops and T-Top Roof Hook are structural components to the body? I remember when replacing the Roof Hook that it was under a decent amount of compression.

I'm planning a respray, and want to remove as much of the trim myself before handing my car over. Would it be safe to drive the car around with the targa tops, and roof hook removed?

I don't want my zed to fold in half like a foldout bed or anything like that halfway down the freeway. :p

If driving from your house to the spray painters it should be OK.

I recall mine coming off quite easily, only 8 or so bolts.

Don't forget to show some pics of the final job!

The hook is not structual and you can drive around with out the targa's in no problem :p

    Probably true but

have you ever seen a z32 lifted on the rear jack location with targas off and hatch & doors open? Yawning chasms open up at several panel edges ... probably doesn't do any long term damage but not a pretty sight:eek:

I reckon the FSM should state that all doors remain closed and targas on when jacking. Having said this I agree with Chrispy but I wouldn't try getting air off speed bumps:rolleyes:

Under no circumstances should you ever drive your Zed without the Targa's fitted.:p:rolleyes:
If ever you do, make sure the windows are up(the glass will stop your car from "folding in half").
What the Hell do you imagine the Nissan guys were thinking when the designed a Targa roof?:confused:

Seriously mate, take a Bex and have a good lie down.:biggrin::zlove::zlove:

that bar is there mainy to hold the "targa's" i doubt it sustains a key part in structural integrity, i'm not familiar with Z's but they do have a convertible one and from memory (reading) there are not many "extra" braces in place to hold the car together

I came from a BMW background and on the E36 convertible there is hardly anything different to a sedan apart from a X brace under the engine, saying that the 4 door has better structural integrity then the coupe

I wouldn't worry about it! i think the nissan engineers would of not allowed you to take it out if it played a key role but it would of been cool if they would of done what supra did with the Aero
