tailshaft centre bearing removal and replacement - couple of points

    Hi all

While I was removing my gearbox to replace the clutch, I took the opportunity to replace my vibrating tailshaft centre bearing. Couple of points:

    1) the tech article shows removing the allen key bolts, but mine were seized shut. Rather than wrestle with them, I just unbolted the flange, dropped the centre section down and slid the front out of the gearbox. The front section has to come out to press the bearing out anyway so this method seems a lot easier. Just means the flange has to be marked so everthing goes back the same way under the car. Got rid of the 60kph vibration, drives beautifully now.

    2) Once out of the car, we absolutely could not get the jaws of the puller under the steel part of the bearing enough to pull it off safely - it was just grabbing on the rubber and slipping. We ended up welding on two upright steel posts onto the side walls of the bearing, then a cross piece with a nut, and then screweed a bolt onto the top of the driveshaft nut. Came off easily then.

Hopefully this comes in handy for someone.
