    Hi Everybody! *cue simpsons-esque response*

Yesterday I finally went for a drive down to Supercheap, and I bought myself a can of Carby Cleaner, which I then used to clean my Throttle Bodies. First let me say, Car runs alot better now. I am very happy with the resulting awesomeness.

Anyway, after I get home from work today, I would like to grab a hold of my spanners and play with something on/in/attached to the Car. Does anybody have any suggestions for nice simple mods that I can do in an afternoon?

I've had a look around the tech section, and there are a few things I'd like to do, like the Ignition ring light + open door = shinyness type mod, and there was another I saw, but I can't remember what it was..

So Yeah, anybody have any ideas for simple little things to keep me entertained?

How about a plenum pull ? :D That will keep you entertained.
Few things you could do, change sparks, oil, coolant, check your injector connectors, just a few...

I knew someone was going to say "Plenum Pull"

Oil and Coolant Change! That's some Good Thinking, Lou. :D

Out of Interest, what are people's opinions on the oil to use?

Think it is dependant on the engine condition

I tried a 5/50 but found an occasional smokey idle. I went back to a thicker oil and the problem disappeared.

If you have a turbo and no boost controller go to supercheap and buy two welding tips (1.2 mm is good). If they don't sell them maybe repco, should be a couple of bucks each. Stick these, small hole down, in the little hose that's just below your intake hoses. Will give you a couple of pounds more boost. See this tech article for more details:
    http://zhome.com/ZCMnL/PICS/boostJets/boostJets.html

Use a bit of Inox or WD-40 (grab some Inox at supercheap too) to lubricate the boost jet and it will slide right in. Else can be a pain to jam in the hose.

Also you could change your brake fluid if your brakes feel spongy at all.

Have you got a pod filter, that is always fun, also taking the mesh off the AFM which is a controversial topic adds power, minimal but it does, your call as you are taking away a point of possible air filtration, you need to make sure that your filters are up to sctratch

You could mod your rear panel at the back so its illuminated lol:p

Depending on mileage and when the car was last serviced oil, filters, and plugs should keep you busy for a while. Also run a good quality injector cleaner like redline through your system.

Pod filter is a good suggestion or if you already have one give it a good clean/service.

Radiator flush and bleed, make sure you refill with either a concentrate and distilled water or a high quality premix like ELF.

Make up a home made blow up tester and go hunting for boost leaks. Or get yourself some silicone line and bling up your vacc hoses.

Go through your fuel lines and check all of your clamps, even the hard to get to ones :D

Just take it easy and follow the directions in tech articles, if you're not sure of anything don't take any chances as mistakes can be a bastard to correct in these. Have heard of people dropping things down the hole when changing plugs amd similar horror stories so make sure this doesn't happen to you!!

    Just on that note............

we recently purchased our Z from a farmers wife, who didnt drive it alot and had it parked in the hay shed. When we got it, i gave it a handful, and it was pinking a lot. changed fuel ran a bit better, but didnt seem "all there" .
They said they just had it serviced not long ago, etc.
something said to me to check the air filter, upon inspection found a hole the size of 50 cent piece in each element :( . Yes a "dirty rat" had got in there and made a nest in one air box even. When i gave it a handful it sucked alot of the bits of element and associated nesting articles on to the gauze of the AFM, and of course it did what it had to do and hence the pinking. So if that mod was done i dont know what the outcome might have been. i think i may just leave it on. :) :) (no pinking now!!)

i remember asking this question like 2 years ago!!!

lucky for me mark used to browse the forums regularly then, Zed4Life...

anyway i remember him saying to check and clean every single connector in the engine bay! all of the electronic ones especially.... and check all the boost lines, make sure you got no leaks.

cant think of much more... hmm could flush your radiator before u put in the new coolant.

When you say Welding Tips, what do you mean?

I instantly thought "Arc Welding Rod" :D

If I were you, I wouldn't start doing go-faster mods until your car is running properly and it is well maintained.

If you want something to do in an afternoon... why not neaten up the engine bay a bit by removing the AIV's and PRVR? You can find how to do this in the tech section.

Once I decipher what AIV and PRVR means, I will do that :D

A neater engine bay does sound good though.. I'm off to the tech section

You'll find them in the A-Z section. The AIV one is lots of fun. :D I haven't done the PRVR one yet, maybe get around to it myself some day.

both are easy, AIV is like 1 hour if that, PRVR takes.. hmm, 5 minutes? If you are doing the AIV already anyway, that is :D
