Is there such thing as a front strut brace that fits without modification? Carbing and powertrix both need the throttle cover cut and most ebay require the hood supports to be dremelled. Im not a fan of cutting things. Does anybody know of a strut brace that requires no modification (or very minor) to fit?
Yes, one that you have mentioned... The carbing strut brace only requires you to remove the throttle cable cover... I wouldn't consider that hard, or extreme.
I was wondering that too....if there were any strut braces that lets you keep the throttle cover intact. I like that thing.
Just get a brace custom made, it's not that expensive to get done. I just worked out why those strut braces are on a funky angle like that. The plenum sides are staggered, interesting. I never really paid enough attention. Your engine bay looks sexual btw SIM300!
It might be easier to modify a throttle cable cover to suit rather than the other way around. Just a suggestion.
There was one made by UAS for a group buy that didn't need mods... Not the best pic, but you can see it...
This one is Z32 specific and fits majority of cars with no mods. Looks hot too. Still on special from UAS for $195, you can see the ad here http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=272813 or PM me if you're interested.
I have one as shown in the above 2 pics. I removed the hood sound deadening panel, and fitment was easy. There s contact between the hood and the strut brace, however, it is not 'bonnet-breaking'. I chose not to dremel / file / alter the bonnet supports due to legal reasons.
i think the cleanest looking one is the uas one shown here on Geoffs car,ive contacted uas numerous times and they have no idea when they are doing more ,so ill wait until the super dooper ones come through from the girl racer i think :zlove: I have a smithys polished throttle cover and im stuffed if im going to cut it in half or modify it or bin it for a strut brace lol
Handling > Bling. I have the powertrix copy (carbing copy, same as sim300). I had to cut the middle out of the throttle cable cover for clearance but will have to remove the cover anyway as I'm doing the PCV reroute. imo it's worth it as the single piece design is better.
I think it is just a poor design if it does not fit without cutting or removing the throttle cover. Looks crap with it cut. On US ebay good ones seem to go for $12-$15
i reckon the UAS one is by far the best looking brace .. .. the weird thing is that the majority of the UAS model seem to have fit w/out any mods whatsoever .... but like you mitch, there have been a few posts reporting minor scraping on the bonnet ... .. have been interested in one of these for a while .. and would appreciate if anyone has an idea as to why the odd unit might be an overly tight fit ... .. could it be that a few zeds might be out of alignment, had a knock or similar ...????
My UAS strut brace, fits perfectly without any mods, (hood lining still intact, and throttle cover fits with no cutting, there is slight rubbing between hood lining and brace. However - The strut brace did rub on my fuel lines causing excess where which started to worry me so i did upgrade to braided lines
Renee has a UAS one too and it doesnt require any modification or removal of parts, except for the fuel lines and throttle cable which I ran through some of the brace mounting bracket holes. Cheers! Craig
Yeah, not sure of the accident history of my car... like mentioned, its only minimal clearance, and still works fine. Very happy with my brace.
