What do i need to strip a whole car's paint. Everywhere were a full respray would touch. Hoping to cut costs. Thanks John
A lot of sanding. In the end its the sanding and prep work that costs the big dollars. Spraying is a small portion of it all.
You wont save much if anything doing that yourself, they'll prep it all again anyway if they're a professional shop. No painter is going to let a customer prep the car for paint as far as sanding/priming goes, because if it comes out shit it's your own fault so they cant guarantee their work.
Sanding you can do yourself. Sand it down to metal. Even if they have to redo it a little themselves, it takes ages to do all that sanding, so doing it mostly yourself is a good idea. Let them prime it etc.
If someone isn't experienced I wouldn't. I know a few panel beaters and they tell me all kinds of crazy shit people do to try and minimize the cost of labour that ends up resulting in the more work for them half the time. It's best to just take everything off that will need to come off, that alone will save them a few hours but as for the rest leave it to the pros. Just my 2c
Yeah... I absolutely agree. but if i could cut costs by a bit, i would. Only I'm probably really bad at sanding so i don't think its going to happen.
If that's the case then I would definately not advise it, you could go too deep etc or create more work for them. If you know someone who has some experience with it then sure. The least you could do would be things like taking out the lights, doorhandles etc which would save them a bit of time.
Thats true, my dads a painter and trust me stuff like that is better left to the professionals if don't haven't practiced or if you don't have any prior experience...
out of curiosity - get a quote if you do sand it back and if you don't, see what they say. speaking to a couple of guys who are painters, their biggest gripe is people who try to cut corners and do the work themselves - ends up creating more work for them.
