Hi Guys...over the past few weeks I am hearing a sound coming from the rear passenger side.when the car is moving and with the window down it sounds like a chain touching the ground like a tinkling sound.I have tested with the motor off, tried pushing the brake and pulling on the hand brake, looked underneath...nothing hanging down but it is there all the time even until I am stationery.the car runs normal....it is a NA auto jspec.......thanks
CATS check your catalytic converters. They may have broken up inside, and aree now rattling as the exhaust gasses pass through them. Hit them with a mallet and see if they rattle. Cheers
cats hi noise is still there when rolling with motor turned off.......other post suggests tail shaft......possibility....had a one piece fitted about 5 months back.....maybe just touching something like a heat shield will check further thanks
Check the rear gearbox seal dustcover It is a circular metal cone about 1.5-2 inchs long (similar to a spray can lid) which sits right behind the gearbox and next to tailshaft. When i had my 1 piece installed, the dustcover came loose and made a tinkling sound like you are hearing. Easy fix - get right under and push it back into place. It press fits into he trans housing. Can be done from both above or below. Above easier but you still need to get to it from below to ensure it is seated all the way around. I used a little silastic in one or two spots to ensure it doesn't come free again.
Here's a suggestion out of left-field.... is the noise perhaps the brake-pad wear indicator scraping on the rotor?
found it! checked out all suggestions.....got desperate had wife drive z slowly with me running along side,it turns out it is coming from the passenger side front wheel.....pads are lowwww, apparantly it the low pad warning which I knew nothing about.....think disk mite be to far gone....anyone know price of a new one?It is amazing tho.....sounded like was coming from the rear when driving....thanks to all
Have a look at the TTZ site [Clicky Here] in the OEM and Performance parts sections, for Brakes/rotors. Should give you a rough idea of prices. But also check with your mechanic whether or not your existing rotors can be machined. Much cheaper.
