Hey all, The other day me and a mechanic friend replaced all the car oils but have a few days later I have ran into a problem with the clutch and now my car is undeliverable.

I'll try and explain my best what has happened over the last few days.

    Day 1 :
We "gravity bled" the clutch cylinders of the mud and sludge that was in there and replaced with castrol DOT 4.1 brake fluid.
straight away there was no pressure at all from the clutch and it didn't want to spring back and my mechanic friend was confused because he hasn't seen that ever before.

Eventually after many hand pumps and him tinkering with the slave cylinder under the car we finally got the pressure back to the clutch like normal so I took it for a drive round the block and all seemed normal.

However on the drive home after about 15 minutes as I pulled my foot off the clutch right at the very top I could hear and feel a quiet clicking noise coming from the pedal , I thought it was strange but it didn't sound like the car was about to fall apart or anything so I continued driving home and ignored it.

    Day 2:
Another strange thing happened on this day , immediately I could feel that the clutch's engagement point had changed over night, it went from pushing in the pedal around half way in to feel the clutch to only having to put my foot down around 20% of the way to start to feel it, I thought it was weird but something I would just have to get used to now that the clutch is running on proper oil and not mud/sludge.

    Day 3:
The clutch was the same as the day before , only having to put my foot down around 20% of the way to feel the clutch. I drove to my friends house and parked it at his house for a few hours while I was inside playing forza on his xbox 360 upgrading my ingame 300zx. After getting back in the car and driving away I almost stalled because the clutch had once again changed its point of engagement from about 20% down to being almost all the way on the ground. but I continued to drive home with the clutching feeling very different from just a few hours before.

    Day 4:
As I pulled away from home the clutch still felt the same as the day before but as I went to change from 3rd to 4th it wouldnt go in it would just grind (my car has always had a grindy gearbox between 3rd and 4th but letting the revs drop first stops the problem.) so I pulled over and tried put it into 1st but it wouldn't even go in , I pumped the clutch a few times then it went in and I drove home.

    Day 5-present:
No matter how many times I pump the clutch or what I do it wont go into gear at all .

Has anyone had or heard of problems like this?
Could it be it was bled wrong and their is air in the system or could their be a problem with my slave cylinder after running mud/sludge though it for who knows how long ?

What ever the problem is thanks for reading and happy zedding

It still has air in it.

If your mechanic friend has never bled a Z before he probably wouldnt know about the third bleed point at the front of the car just near the HICAS solenoid behind the drivers side headlight. The changing engagement point is a result of temperature changes and the trapped air volume changing with it.

    Ah that makes sense !
I had a feeling being a 300zx it would have been over designed :)

cant wait to get it back on the road thanks!
