bracket has posed the question about what power level the stock rods are good for, so on a tt what power levels are the stock pistons good for. Keeping in mind that i am asking from a point of being safely pushed all day every day sort of cenario.
On E85 i'd have no problems taking it to ~400rwkw on stock pistons. There are many cars out there making more power than that on stock pistons and they are thrashed daily.
Bad tune /detonation /old worn motor You can't blame the pistons . They will handle more than you think ,it's in the tuning I was pushing well over 300rwkw consistently and they were like new when heads came off..
This, i know of many cars putting out over 350rwkw on stock internals. Like Blackbeast said, its in the tune. You don't magically get to 300rwkw and your engine blows, an engine can let go at stock power if the tune is crap. Detonation or pre-ignition will kill an engine no matter how much power or what pistons it runs. PS: Ditchams cracked the ringlands, due to a bad tune. Detonation killed that engine, not power or "wear" as some of you claim.
You can put about as much boost and power as you can make thru stock engine parts and still smile. Its RPM that will kill these bits, or as noted bad tuning. Not the power it produces. E
Lol shh I don't want to hear that it's a bad tune his nistune is in my car ATM Lucky I'm not driving with it haha
Same, had the same turbos and was running 15-18 psi at about 460hp and pistons/rods were sweet when I pulled her apart. Even had it goin at 24psi for a while. Check my build thread, think I may hav stock piston pics in there. Its all upto the tune, supporting mods, regular servicing and previous history of your engine. The VG30dett is a pig of an engine, its up there with 2j and rb26 I reckon, just a prick to work on.
Also when you say "safely pushed all day every day" does that mean its used as a daily or pushed on track sorta thing? As a daily I doubt you'll be using all you the power youv got driving to and from work lol
Gibbon, you are pretty close on both counts there. I daily it for periods and the car see's occasional track use also. I doubt I will be pushing more than 300 rwkw so when the time comes to screw more power into my ol girl i know the stock pistons and rods can cope. I also know who not to go to for a tune. Knock sensing equipment during tuning is a must!
The stock rods are extremely strong. Even if they break, it's most likely due to the rod bolts failing. Detonation kills pistons, often just takes a bit longer to kill them if they're forged.
just a little heads up, they have invested in some new knock sensing equipment Doesn't mean my cars not about to get a retune at MRC after only 8 weeks or so...
