Still running on 5...

Cut a long story short, went to Josh's last Sun, try and start his zed and in the process mine decided all of a sudden to run on 5...

All we done was to take a coilpack off, coilpack no.1 and the PTU to put on his to see if stuff worked, anyways put them back on mine, started it up and now its running on 5, not from cyl1 but from cyl5??, decided to drive home on 5 sounding like a lawnmower...

So yest decided to give all the injector connectors a good clean as they were corroded, took couple of hours, took off all the coilpacks, put everything back together and still again running on 5, unplugged all the coilpack connectors and it would drop a cyl off everyone but 5, only thing i haven't done is to try another coilpack from another cyl and swap them around, but i dont think thats the problem..

Basically turned the car on, reved it up a bit but i did notice some black fluid coming from the drivers side exhaust spitting out, dont know if it was petrol or water, but it was black, was pretty minor, would this suggest that one of my injectors has stuffed up?, if so another plenum pull and to change the injecotors would be necessary?, what else can I do to try that I have missed?

Check the pins on the PTU connector and the continuity between the ECU and the PTU.

I would try swapping a coilpack first. Start with the easiest things. If that has no change, then I would swap over a spark plug. Process of elimination starting with the easiest.

Have you checked the plugs @ 5 (injector/coilpack) for continuity?

Or you could start with what is most likely the problem

    If you removed your PTU

then that's where I'd start. dirty/corroded terminals sometimes don't like being moved. CLean up ALL the PUT terminals until they are bright metal, then clean out the female wiring plug terminals with some vinegar and a points file.

When you have finished cleaning, ensure you retension them like this:

I'd be checking the PTU connectors, and unit next Mikey. Spark plugs will be fine (dry) if the coil packs are.
