Sticky Throttle Bodies

No sure if if anyone's run into this yet, but in the last few days the Zed's developed this annoying habit.

After giving her a medium to heavy boot for a couple of seconds, when I take my foot off the 'go fast' pedal, Idle gets stuck between 2-3K RPM. Upon further inspection, it seems like my Throttle Bodies aren't closing properly. (Not very fun while doing twistys... :()

If I pull over and pop the hood, a few hard flicks on the linkages will see them start to close properly again... and I can drive normally, until the next time I give her a boot.

The same issue can be sorted while driving but its a bit more difficult, requiring 5-6 lightning fast stabs at the pedal for it to 'reset'.

    Things to note:

    - They are still incredibly clean from the rebuild. Popped off the Intake pipes and you could eat of them. Cleaned them again anyway.

    - It's not like they're being stuck open at 10% or something, you can see on the driver's side, its just less then a single mm before it hits the bump stop thing.

    - I noticed on the inside of the passenger's TB, there were light markings on the inside diameter of it, which appear to have been made by the TB flap possibly closing too much and lightly scoring it. Hardly deep at all, could barely be felt, but it was visible to the naked eye.

    - Cable isn't too tight and there is a reasonable amount of slack when the Pedal has been let go.

Would this be an adjustment issue? (even though this has never happened before)

And/or has someone figured out an easy way to strengthen the springs to snap it shut just a tiny bit tighter/harder?

Do you have stock throttle bodies or z1's?

I've seen this issue a few times and normally it can be resolved by taking the system apart and starting from scratch carefully aligning everything And ensuring the are no binding issues on each component.

When you put it back together a tiny bit of grease on the ball ends of the throttle shaft helps, this will require maintenance as it will collect dust over time and might cause the same binding you have now. It's a catch 22 situation, if you don't lube it might stick, if you do it wont stick now but might later.

What did you clean the throttles with? there should be a small amount of lube on the shafts inside the bushes, this will have been washed away most likely. Possible some debris has been washed in to the bush area when you cleaned them also so watch out for that.

There are small adjustments that need to be made if you take the system apart and re fit, not sure if FSM has any details on this. Common sense and carefulness should result in a fix though :)

Emile did you take appart the throttle linkage?
If so there might be a horizontal alignment problem applying "pressure" on the connection link.
The lub problem can be overcome by using graphite powder not grease.

    Stockers.

All noted, I was kinda hoping to avoid all that though, taking it all apart :p

And I cleaned with some WD-40 & Methylated Spirits.

The TBs themselves? No. But I did take the 3 individual components off (2x TB and 1x Center linkage) when the Plenum went to be Power coated. Is that what you mean?

Hrm, Graphite Powder, haven't thought of that. Definitely will take that into account when I take Glen's suggestion.

Thanks for the help so far guys. :)

TBs might not be balanced, have a look through FSM for a "how to"

I had a similar problem, turned out one was opening before the other, it's as simple as adjusting the little screws on the linkages to make sure they open symmetrically

    Any adjustment

concerning the throttle, should be accompanied by a reset of the tps.

This is what I'm sort of suspecting as well. But I don't get how it would have happened, I didn't adjust anything, just took them off and put em back on again after the Powder coating. Maybe that somehow did it.

See above. Pretty much agree with you, I'll see if I can dismantle, reassemble and readjust.

Good point, forgot about this. Do you mean re-adjusting TPS to 0.44-04.46V or did you mean resetting the ECU?
