Is this doable to slide it out the side? Or do I need to lower the crossmember to get it out?

    Apparently it is http://tech.aus300zx.com/
If you have easy access to a hoist a would probably just drop the cross member though

It is! Have done so twice with the cross member in situ. As with all things Z32, it was tight!

yeah its Doable, Ive done it by just removing the rack alone and another time I dropped the cross member at the same time.

Its not too hard either way (provided you have a hoist to hold engine if you drop the cross member). And besides, If you pull the cross member you can do a 'Cut and shut' and move the rack forward 20mm for that extra drift angle ;)

if your just replacing your rack bushings that rack can stay in place dude

    Why's it coming out?

We did Robbo's rack bushes with it all in place. Was a bit fiddly but very doable.

Need to swap in a new rack since I think I've wrecked my current one. If it was just the bushes that's easy peasy, can do them in my sleep.

Did you use the longer bolt trick? So you don't have to physically compress the new bushing to catch the thread.

No need, I've done it a few times with the stock bolts no problem. Just make sure you fit the bush up properly.

On another note, looks like I need a steering pump and not a rack. Easy enough job to do though replacing the rack. probably be a bit harder on a tt.

Bit of a thread dig but thought I'd leave a quick update in case anyone is searching for this in the future. Have taken the rack out twice now in car and it was a surprisingly easy job to do. Crossmember didn't need to be dropped, engine didn't need to be raised or anything like that.

i might need to pull my rack soon and so far from my research it can be done without dropping the crossmember. atill good to confirm from someone who has done it before.
