g'day, well i finally got my car back after 4 months in the panlebeaters and amongst the multitude of things still wrong with the car is one that is quite strange, the steering column moves about an inch side to side, at the steering wheel, didnt even notice it till i got the car home and off the trailer, underneath the dash where the column meets it are 2 10mm nuts that secure what appears to be some kind of sliding adjustment, in my car this only allows it to move from side to side, not forward and backward, i was wondering if anyone knows any tricks that can allow me to tighten the whole thing up again so the steering column is solid and doesn't move ??
    cheers

Simply loosen the two nuts and then move the two wedges/cams that are located either side of the column, and are held in place by those nuts. You should find that these wedges can be moved freely and positioned firmly against the sides of the column. Just tighten the nuts and all should be well.:zlove::zlove:

thanks a lot Chili, i was beginning to think that it was going to be a real problem as it happened in the accident, and the panelbeaters never picked it up.
    cheers

Strangely, the W/Shop Manual doesn't show the wedges on the top bracket, but they exist on my car(I re-tightened them last week, after having the same problem as you). They are small alloy spacers on mine.:zlove::zlove::zlove:
