Hi people, my zed usually starts first time evrytime with no need for accelerator..... today for the first time it wouldnt start and i had to get in and pump the accelerator while turning the key it eventually started and i noticed a heap of smoke came out the right exhaust.... anyway after the car was warm enough i drove to my appointment for my X-Ray and when i cam out the car wouldnt start straight away i had to pump the accerator a few time whilst turning the key..... then when i got home i turned the car off and waited 20 seconds then tried to start it and it wouldnt start... i also noticed some flat spots during taking off too.... any ideas what could be going on here as i dont like starting the car like this.... i am going to try some injector cleaner... thankZZZZZZ
First thing.... ...clean the connectors on the CTS. (coolant temp sensor) Two small sensors on the metal pipe that leads to the top of the radiator. This would be the most common culprit. Egg
what egg said yeah mate , my car was exactly the same when i bought it, do what egg said, also i cleaned the throttle bodies, replaced the pod filter and adjusted the TPS, all this made an absolutely huge difference, also i had a tiny leak in a fuel line at the back of the plenum under those bars that go across the plenum, it is a short hose about 75mm long, with a clamp at either end, if you shine a torch in there you can see whether the line is leaking or not, i just repositioned the clamps and retightened them cheers
And just in case you don't already know, pumping the accelerator pedal has absolutely no effect on starting the engine. NONE, ZERO, NIL, NADA. Pumping the pedal used to have some effect on carbies, because many had accelerator pumps which squirted a small amount of fuel into the inlet manifold. Fuel injected engines don't work that way, so save yourself the embarrassment of letting people know that "you DON'T know".:zlove:
Heh... ...kinda right, Lloyd. When my CTS contacts last needed cleaning the ONLY way I could start my Z was by pumping the pedal. Keep turning it over it wouldn't start, give it a pump and a spluttering start would result. Egg
Opening the throttle lets a little more air into the system and on occasions, helps with combustion at start-up.
