I've decided that I will start a 300zx wiki, to be used for both technical and otherwise useful information relating to the our beloved toys. Originally I was going to make it a subdomain of the alternative forum but decided it would be best if it was un-biased towards either forum. As a result I'm going to register it's own domain name and need suggestions for what to get. Current ideas of mine are: z32wiki.com/org 300zx-wiki.com/org z32.info wikiz.com/org z-wiki.com/org I'm tending towards z32.info for simplicity but I'm open to suggestions. Let me know what you think. Cheers AB
I like z32.info... for the same reasons. But where will it be hosted and how reliable will the hosting be? Do you remember when this forum was moved from its original site because they started bombarding us with advertisements? An alternative is write what ever is missing from the technical section of this site. Evan.
It'll be hosted on my server... I'll be hosting it on my business' webserver (plug plug) so not withstanding major hardware failure (which would only put it offline temporarily anyway) , it should be reliable. AB
ha no it's not that ..(warning - shameless plug inside) zed.audiobuzz.org was just me playing with dyndns.org and a photo gallery. It's since dropped of the face of the earth and I now only use that domain for email. [plug] I've recently started a web hosting/development business called Elysium Technologies as a side to my 9-5 day job. I know the site is a bit sparse at the moment but it was just a quick job to get something online. A proper site will be deployed later. [/plug] Anyway, the wiki is up at wiki.elysiumtech.com.au and again, it's just a sparse bare bones phpwiki. eye-candy will come later. AB
A wiki is... A wiki is a documentation system where anyone and everyone can make changes and modifications to documents (and create new pages). It works because the system keeps a running record of modifications and can roll back to a previous version if someone messes with the page in-appropriately. have a look at wiki.elysiumtech.com.au to see what I mean AB
It will need to be backed up regularly as anyone will be able to cause malicious damage. I don't see why anyone would but you neve know. This is assuming everyone has full access.
Thats the beauty of a wiki... it keeps a copy of all revisions of documents so that if someone mucks them up, you can roll back. And anyone can roll it back so it's not reliant on admins to do it. But either way, there will be weekly and nightly backups anyway so it's not an issue. AB
