Stalling on Moderate Braking

Good morning all!

Wondering if any one has any ideas on this one:

I have a TT Auto.

When driving, if I have to apply moderate to hard braking and the Auto trans has to gear down the car will drop RPM and stall.

It's like there's an issue between 2nd and 1st when the trans is changing.

I have not done a self diag of the trans yet, but will do tonight.

Any ideas?

Check your AAC valve operation as per FSM. Refer tech section: AAC, IACV, stumble, hesitation.

 

if that doesnt work, check ur trans fluid, and also ur bovs need tightening if u have some.

 

Bump the base idle up

A bit. Wind the base idle screw anti-clockwise about 1/2 turn. You won't see any idle change as ECU controls idle but try it out. If still stalling, turn another 1/2 turn. If no change then IACV needs a cleanout as Rob suggested.

 

Do a boost/vac leak test before messing about with the idle speed.

 

Then page EF&EC 89 has a Trouble Diagnostic Procedure - Engine Stalls After Decelerating.

 

PCVs perhaps as well
