    Hi

Wondering what those who experience spark blowout feels like I'm tidying up my top end tuning and now running aggressive timing. The car is motoring hard but when I get into 2nd it will pull hard then fall on its face like the engine is turning off. I think it's spark blowout. Thoughts?

Will get new spark plugs tomoz. Afr is 11.7-12 on e85. 24-25 degrees of timing at 19psi (will be 22psi)

Now see here's where all the confusion on tuning comes in, and why it's a better idea to use Lambda than AFR's.

Is your 11.7-12 AFR adjusted for E85 or standard fuel? If it's adjusted, that's way lean. If not, probably about right.

Bosch sensor based wideband sensors are actually Lambda sensors (no doubt they probably all are). The controller and/or guage simply displays a multiplication of Lambda that with most controllers you can modify. ie Innovate has a program you can connect to your controller and change the multiplier for the correct stoich value for each fuel type. ie standard fuel the multiplier is 14.7. E85 the multiplier is around 9.7. Stoich in Lambda is 1 no matter what the fuel.

So is your multiplier set as 14.7 for standard fuel or 9.7 for E85?

And what heat range plug are you running?

It's gas scale Wouldn't run as hard as it does that lean LOL.

Spark plugs are ngk r's 6 heat range but getting 7 tomoz. Pretty sure it's blowing it out

The aem 8 channel cdi and pencils look like a pretty good setup for ignition. What are the high hp cars here running?

    Lol true.

    NGK R as in platinum?
Maybe go with Iridium plugs might be better?

Ngk r is the copper range. May try Iridiums if the colder plugs don't work. Have you had spark blowout? Feels like fuel cut.

Nope, but I haven't run e85, I'm guessing the higher fuel content could be a factor. U sure it's not struggling with fuel? Ie hows the fuel pressure?

I know some people swear by copper but ill only ever run Iridiums

What do the plugs look like?
Have you tried adjusting the gap?
Probably the only way to positively identify whether it is spark plug related, would be to run it on a dyno & watch the spark patterns on an oscilloscope.

I've had spark cut in an rx7 and that was definitely what it felt like, put you through the windscreen on a bad day.
You can try reducing the gap on the plugs or new plugs but if you haven't replaced the coilpacks yet they may be getting tired. You can also try checking the plenum and loom earths if you want to cover all bases

yeah pretty much slams you into the steering wheel!

hopefully new plugs gapped to .7mm will give me a bit.

If you get Iridiums, don't gap em, just leave them as is, they're easily ruined.

Standard I think they come as 0.8mm.
