    bose boxes

got into a little argument about this with someone on the forum a while ago.

    bose boxes are USELESS!!!!!!!!!

    yes i said it...

    why?

bose spend millions of $$ every year researching sound waves.
if you cut open a bose speaker box you will see baffles, these baffles are designed to cancel the sound waves from the back of the speaker (giving no interference and better sound)

    BUT

these boxes are designed for the speaker they have in there originally. and sound good with those speakers.

if you pull them out and put in an after market speaker..
this is where the problem arises.
bose built that box small so they worked perfect with the original speaker BUT aftermarket speakers need big boxes if you want the best out of them.

which means it would not gain any benefit from the boxes. think of it like putting a sub into a box thats WAYYYYY too small.

using dynamat on the door will create almost the same effect as using bose boxes..

so NEHHH!!!! do you research before getting bose boxes.

also for your sub box i got a qualified chippy to make my boxes. if you want i can hook you up for a decent price.
ps. i can get you alpine gear at a good price as well.

@BigTDogg - i would pay for shipping but its very hard to come across. Ive been told that the 2+2 boxes can fit into the 2 seater zeds. So i need to get myself 6.5" component speakers for front & rear since i dont have the bose boxes...am i correct?

@aazn - thanks for that :) since that is the case i will be going for the type r 12" subs. Do you know how long till alpine releases the new subs? If its more than a month then i dont want to wait as i plan on having my setup ready before the end of november. Would you recommened using the 2 v9 amps or just 1 v9 amp or another amp? Can you pm me your number as i would like to talk & see if you can make some custom sub boxes for me.

Meh, I beg to differ. There are no baffles in the 1990 Bose enclosures. There are some ribs for reinforcing the injection molded plastic, but no baffles to speak of. The shape alone cancels standing waves.

Yes, the volume is small, and they are not suitable for subwoofers, but they work just fine for midbass drivers.

While they're not essential to any system, they're worth getting if they're available, as they're better than a free-air option. Putting an MDF cover on a 4.5" Bose box is a decent option as well, though I've never tried it.

You may want to slot the mounting holes slightly, to lower the enclosure by about 4-5mm, so that the driver won't hit trim pieces when hitting peak excursion.
