    Hey Guys.

Thought I'd share this, as it's something I didn't think about - so I can't be the only one....

As you know, Ford wheels fit our Zed's. So, when I bought some nice alloys from someone changing theirs (they wanted to go from 18" to 19"), I promptly bolted them on - they even came with locknuts.

A year odd later - (New tyres since, car serviced since) one of the wheels made wierd sound. Checked it out before getting on the freeway... Soooooo glad I did. Wheel lose. Tightened it up. Drove towards freeway.... something told me check again. Bypassed freeway entrance, pulled over and checked again. Loose again !!

Now the nuts wont tension - feel stripped. Pinched a nut from each of the other wheels to fix. Checked and all feels good. Drove on and all OK.

Go to shop to buy new nuts, notice that the Nissan nuts are 12mm x 1.25, and ford are 1/2Inch x 1.25. Hmmmm..... 1/2 Inch is around 12.5mm - there's a hint. The trick is they went on nicely and tensioned up fine when put on, and not one mechanic / wheel shop picked up the error!

I now have NEW nuts all round.

Thought I'd share - cause if I can miss it - anyone can!

    Cheers,

    Simon.

Go buy yourself a lotto ticket.

Came out of that one very lucky.

    But also a good FYI.

Evil Twin Time to 'Suit Up'!

I brought a new full set of 12mm x 1.25 recently (they are stamped accordingly) - but the outside of the nut is imperial and doesnt suit and OEM wheel brace :(

I am not real happy about changeing to another wheel brace. Anyone want to buy my nuts? ;)

    Benny_C About as subtle as...

so moral of the story is, yes the Ford rims PCD and offset still do fit our Zeds as they alway have, but just don't use the nuts off them as the thread is slightly different.

...VERY glad to hear that you were savvy enough to pull over and check yours out like you did. Could have ended up a lot worse. Glad to hear you and your Zed are ok! :zlove:

You might be in a dangerous situation - check it out

Ford stud pattern is the same dimensions so yes they fit.
    But....
I think you will find the centre hole is a different size!

There is a fallacy that the weight of the car rests on the threads!!!

If the centre hole is a different size its dangerous as the wheel weight will not sit on the disc inner lip (this is the part designed to hold the weight of the car)
This means the weight of the car will sit on the on the threads and wear them away until they loosen up and fall off or just plain snap!

There is only a couple of mm difference in it but a even half a mm difference is enough to make it sit on the threads instead of the centre hole hub lip - DANGER -WILL ROBINSON!

Your problems are only just beginning sorry if they are in fact ford wheels!

They will loosen rattle shake thread and snap there way off eventually - you really need to check it out - because it sounds like you have a ford wheel from your similiar sounding problems

Hate giving bad news but I might save your whole car from a disaster here!
You should check your centre hole hub sizes out to guarantee they fit based on what youv'e said in your post

    Hope this helps
    Cheers

That's what these are for... You should always get them if you buy rims from a shop from new. But they are redily available in all sorts of sizes

stuff all, if you pay more than 20 you are getting screwed. They are just polycarb rings

cant do a reverse job lol unless you start drilling holes

Z wheels would be 66.06 centre hole
    if ford is 70.00 centrehole
    it means

Ford wheels will fit Zs with centre hole spacers
But a Z wheel cannot go on the ford the hub is too small - you can get it on - but it will never be flush becuase its sitting on the lip - bad news stuff

you cant get spacers that make a hole larger is what I am saying - if you took Z wheels to put on a ford hub -
only the other way round works -ford to z= spacer
    cheers

Just to keep the language straight, so that we might avoid confusing some of our less experienced members, we are talking hub rings here, not spacers.

Wheel spacers are a horse of an entirely different colour, and we have vigorously discussed the pros and cons of these on the Forum many times.

Finally, the other important reason for keeping a consistent language is so that the search function works as intended. That's also why we have a Spelling Nazi.

To clarify your post and for the benefit of those less experienced in the language:
Centre Hole Spacers are different to Hub spacers which is what your thinking I'm referring too - Hub Rings/ Centre hole Spacers are whats in the picture, they are the same.

Hub spacers are rings that go over the thread to offset your wheel (for those less experienced :p) They can also be called offset wheel spacers

The nazi's lost the war! LOL
But good point about the search engine and strength of word to the post
    Cheers

Lucky you didnt lose your Zed

    To clarify clearly!

The 80kmh wheel wobble is cause the z wheel (60mm hole) is smaller than fords 70mm hole, so it sat on the ford centre hole lip hub (70mm wide) centre hole hub lip

That lip is 5mm wide (the width of the 70mm lip ring itself) instead of locking around and onto the centre hole hub lip and sitting flush - whole mag to whole hub and flat

You were sitting on a 5mm ring of alloy and putting the weight of the car on the studs.
It will never sit balanced on a ring and the faster you go the more wobble will occur unitl if breaks off the studs.

No different to having the reverse but without the centre hole hub spacer/ hub ring - wheels on thread and is uneven and eventually will break and fall off

only way from Z to Ford is to drill a bigger centre hole (mill)
only way from ford to Z is to use the hub ring/ centre hole spacer

Lucky not to lose your Z - maybe bit faster and you would have got there!

I knew exactly what video it was going to be before clicking. Never seen the extended one though (people checking it out). One wheel I can understand, but all 4?

I now want to listen to 2 Live Crew.
