Hey guys just wondering if some one might know about this and offer some valuable feedback. The prob is that when i first start the car and leave it to warm up, after about 5 or so mins, it starts to chug a bit of smoke out of both exhausts. Sometimes its only the right side and then other times its the left and then both. If i take it for a drive then the smoke clears and if i then leave it on idle, no smoke comes out of the exhaust. Its def not condensation as well as the smoke is a bit thick. By the way turbos are runnig stock boost, but seem to be working fine. Any ideas???
my exhaust lets out a bit of grey smoke on its first start of a day, but besides that first start up for the day its all good. Sounds a bit wierd that yours comes up after 5mins, mine is smokey when i first reverse out of the driveway and thats all... thought it must be normal, yours does sound a little different though...
When i first start it a little smoke comes out pretty sure a little bit of condesation combined with fuel, then it clears up. after it heats up to operating temp then it starts to do the smoke thing. Just hope taht its not the rings or the turbos. I even changed the oil to thicker stuff which made no difference.
mines smokey in the morings too. especially as i don't drive mine during the week, so by the end, its got a wonderfull smell of fuel, and a bit smokey, but i give it a run for about 20 mins every day or two to keep the liquids flowing, so its all good. :zlove::thumbsup::LOL: cheers ash
Yea ive noticed that when i only drive it once a week this occurs. Can it damage the car if only driven once a week like on the weekends?
i had the same problem its the turbo seal, the rubber in the turbo housing is worn out, dripping oil makes contact with hot something and starts smoking. however after i had a proper service done the problem went away, now all i get is condensation in the morning. also someone at a tech day ages ago told me that a worn turbo seal is not a big deal. someone with more knowlegde should provide a better explanation and correct me if im wrong.
Re: i had the same problem It will likely be a seal somewhere either valve stem oil seal or turbo oil seal. Rubber seals harden with age and exposure to heat etc etc, plus they also wear out. They are particularly hard when cold, and can soften up a little when the motor heats up. So as an example, you get just a drip of oil get past a seal (perhaps a turbo seal). The seal then heats up and seals better, but the oil sits there in your exhaust, and then starts to smoulder once the exhaust pipe heats up sufficiently. A small amount of oil can make a lot of smoke. I also get this problem. If the car sits and cools down, or if I sart up cold, I get some smoke from one or both pipes. As soon as the motor heats up, I can drive or idle all day and no more smoke. Some days it doesn't smoke at all. It is like a lottery . Although on the last oil change I did use a thinner oil, which is probably a contributing factor for me. Hope my rant is helpful.
re: i had the same problem so it couldn't be something else like fuel smoke from being too rich on idle, valve stem seals leaking a bit of oil overnight? Nah...it's turbo seals...couldn't be anyhing else now could it?
