Just about to fit some side skirts and rear apron onto the zed, which type of Sikaflex should I use on them, they are fiberglass. I bought Sikaflex 252, is that the right one to use?
they didn't have 227, and I read that 252 can be used for fibreglass. So just wanna make sure its the right one.
yeah luis,252 is perfect for fibreglass if you are not using it all at once,place a nail in the end of the nozzle,then cover it with gladwrap and a rubber band and it will keep If you dont do this,it will dry up in the tube in no time seeing its summer
luis, are you fitting it with screws and silkaflex? I know a lot of people screw the very ends of the skirt. When i fit mine, i fastened mine to the body beneath the doors etc. I drilled the holes and screwed them in. When i fit the side skirt, i put the silkaflex along where the skirt would make contact with the body, then put the screws in to act as a clamp and maintain the pressure when it dried. Once it dried, i took the screws out, bogged and sanded the skirts.
.. the nail and gladwrap never works for me ... do not know how many tubes have been wasted .. ... there is definitely a market or smaller sized tubes ... !!!!
After you cant get it out of the end any more, the centre is still OK. First try running a drill down thru the top. If that doesn't work use a stanley knife and cut a small flap on the side of the tube and dig out what you need. If you keep it in the fridge straight after you first use the cartridge it will last a fair while. Mine goes in the cheese drawer and I have had an open tube last 8 months.
Well the Sikaflex has an expiry date of July 09, so after I use it theres no point storing it, anyone in Perth need some soon?
how often do you need silkaflex and how expensive is it? i do the screw and glad wrap trick, but more often than not i just get a fresh container. i saw in one workshop one of the guys discovered a tube of some glue used the same cap.
I don't know about the fridge being the best place to store SikaFlex once opened (I'd agree for Superglue though). Atmospheric moisture is what sets the Sikaflex adhesive sealant stuff off! (not heat/temperature)
Have to disagree ive been using the stuff for about 10 years trade wise and it keeps the longest SEALED and stored in the fridge , , mind u it takes up space u could be storing the tinnies Trev
