I'm looking into getting my track car caged while I've got it stripped, Ideally I'd like something reasonably minimal but still incorporating the strut towers for a bit of extra rigidity.

So, who's got a cage, what do you have? If you are in Melbourne where was it done?

Pictures, drawings, whatever you have would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    check my build thread .

my cage is a 6 point and the minimum requirement for cams
    comes in at about 30-35kgs

its in DOM steel .. chromoly would have stuff all weight saving with this amount of steel

Thanks, that's much lighter than I was expecting, what was teh ballpark cost and how much extra would you be expecting (weight and cash) once it is extended to the front strut towers?

Relevant post here for anyone's reference, it's a big thread to search through: http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1019975#post1019975

Wrong country (NZ) but got some good pics of the roll cage when my Z race car was built. Cromoly built to MANZ specs.

    Nice, thanks.

Just what I needed to see with the front strut towers.

You also replaced teh black bar behind the dash, do you still have the stock dash (or any parts of it) in there or is it all gone? I'll probbaly need at least the skin of it due to class regulations but I guess iwth something like that I can make up some brackets if I need to.

that cage was quoted $3000 which is cheap considering it was made from scratch .

but cost me extra 600 in extras like seaming welding the towers, notching out the front support bar ,slotting quarter window trim ,etc .

stuff all weight running to the front towers 10kgs max?.. wouldn't of cost me more than another 400 -500 ..(my engine bay was already painted)

    Did i hear you right $3000 plus extra's ?
have spoken to a few cage guilders here in Perth for the same type of thing and they want between 7 and 8K.
Christ i could ship the car there and back and still cost me less than getting it done here...

    yep
but keep in mind it is the bare minimum and can easily of come to $5000 making it more extensive and safer.. but weight was a high priority.

    but yeah great price.

A bit off topic but have you replaced the upper camber arm with an A-arm?
