Should smoke be coming out from under the bonnet?

I took a TT out for a test drive on Friday. Seems like it was down a little on power.
20 minutes of highway driving, started smelling a petrol smell in cabin.
Got back to the yard stopped and next thing i know somke is coming out from the bonnet.
Pop the bonnet open, more smoke, a rather plasticy oily smell.
Engine now making a loud tapping sound.
    Car would not restart.

Needless to say I walked away (or was that ran).

I drove past half an hour later and the car was back on the lot waiting for the next sucker.

First thing I'd do is put out a message on the forum detailing the yard and the car so no one falls victim. Then i'd proceed to paint and battery acid bomb the car so no clueless kid get ripped off... The car yard obviously knows the problem, and have it displayed again to try and flog it off. It would serve them right.

This is a serious reply: No, not normal

at all. You did the right thing by running away.

if you are after a good zed with a known history, look up K-Zed's brisbane ad in zeds for sale. I and many other locals have known the car for some ~ 6 years.

Might seem a bit dearer than some, but you know what you are getting ... thats much better than buying a cheapy and then spending mega-bucks repairing it. Cheaper in the long run to get a good one...

Here's the link, if its still available.:zlove:

If I was looking for a zed around 1990 vintage, I'd buy it in a heartbeat...
