If you are talking about the front bolt in the OEM shifter linkage that is one of two bolts for the shifter then from memory that bolt is tack welded to the plate.

You should only need to remove it if you are fitting an aftermarket shifter that requires a longer bolt.

Its easy with a cut in half spanner dude.

If you go insane and cant fix it, unbolt the bracket from the 4 bolts that hold it onto the transmission. Youll need to get under the car for that.

IF your a real man, when you remove it, throw everything in the bin and replace it with a solid shifter mount.

If you are replacing the OEM bushings with these then you are going to need a nylock nut for the bolt that goes through the bush. The brass bushings do not have a crush tube so if you tighten the bolt the shifter will jam. Personally I think the OEM bush is better.

That's exactly what I'm trying to replace them with and I have the Nylock nut I bought the SPL bronze ones ones from Coz!

I'm actually contplating putting the car back together before I break something in a fit of rage!!!

Which shifter bolt is giving you trouble?

The front with the nut on top or the rear with the nut underneath?

The rear one with the nut underneath it..... Everything else has been easy so far

Mate I'm using a stubby spanner it's basically half a spanner already any shorter and its going to be to hard to even grip it to turn it

Mine was not that tight so it was reasonably easy to undo from inside the car. If someone has over tightened the nut on your car then it may be easier to get to from under the car.

The other thing to double check is that you are turning the nut in the right direction if you are trying to undo it from the inside of the car. It is easy to get it backwards when working with a bolt upside down.

It's undone from the top. Just needs supporting grip from under. The spanner i use is no longer than 2inches.

Can also grip the short spanner with vice grips to get a better angle.

That crossed my mind! I don't think I am, I'm loosening it clockwise as its facing down towards the ground...

alright so i couldnt get that bolt undone so i have decided to just do it in-situ as it is.... bit tricky but i got the old bushings out. now im about to reinstall the bronze ones, does the collar need to be put back in place with the bronze bushings?? because it clips into the plastic ones however you cant do that with the bronze bushings??

Alright I finally got it done.

Just FYI for anybody who comes across this thread in the future and is having the same problem, there is no need to remove that painful upside down bolt or the shifter and base ect, you can change the bushings with it all in place if your careful and take your time.

    :D
