you can get track insurance... more then doable...

however.... track insurnace costs 10% or more of the value of the car...

IE you have a $100,000 GTR to insure it for an event... IE Targa West it will cost you $10,000

for that one event... so to insure your $10,000 zed it will cost you $1,000 each time you go out...

It seems a poor assumption that ANY insurer would cover you if driving your car in an illegal manner ie street racing??

Could have sworn I mentioned "affordability" as well as "availability" back up this thread a bit, Josh.:p:p:rofl::br:

I am in a historic car club and the rules are the car must be over 30years old from date of manufacture. My ZX can not be insured as a classic until it is 30 years old. My friends 1970, 240Z is a classic vintage car.

I can remember back in the old days 1960/1970 there was a special race track insurance where you could insure your race car.

    In the thread, as requested...

My attitude is not poor, thank you very much.

I had just hoped that my Zed would be covered by some level of insurance (considering how much Shannons charge me for my full Comprehensive) should I elect to enter it in track events. I, like so many others on this fine Forum, have put a great deal of time, effort and hard-earned money into my Zed. She is my pride and joy. I also freely admit that I am very far from being the "Stig", and that the possibility that I might bend my beloved Zed is not as remote as it might be for some of you. Especially as I've never been on a track in any car, let alone one pulling over 300rkW.

I am NOT "blaming" Shannons for anything. Again, I am simply disappointed that coverage is not offered to encourage the application of speed in a safe, controlled environment.

I CAN accept responsibility for the choice to enter a track event.

I NEVER stated that Shannons was encouraging me to Street-Race. I DID vent a little (in jest, as everyone else has taken it) about Street-Racing to get a speed-fix (and a likely result of such stupidity), though this is something I would never actually do.

I also CAN accept that track events are not a right, they are a chosen risk.

In your first paragraph you judge my attitude, in your second you cast aspersions as to both my courage and my intelligence. You do not know me and would not write such if you did, so I would appreciate you keeping such opinions regarding me to yourself.

    Hi Baz,
as a somewhat bemuse by-stander, why should you be exempt from personal character assassination(get on the queue, it forms right behind moi.)? :p:rofl::br:
BTW, by hi-lighting your relative lack of track experience(and your need to be covered in just such a situation)you are giving an Insurance Risk Assessor tacit support for the view that you pose an increased/unacceptable level of risk. Not what the Underwriters want to hear, IMHO.;):)

this is something that i always find funny..

    "safe, controlled environment."

lets be honnest... its not, its far from it. You are driving your car to either its limits or your limits around corner with often other cars in close proximity... other cars and track conditions you have no control over and driving in an unsafe mannor... thus there is nothing controlled or safe about it...

    its more

Damage and casualty limiting location with trained fire and ambos there to help when you fk up...

Lil baz, seems you did take my post a bit personally.

But honestly, you are asking about a regular insurance policy covering you for a motorsport event. If i was the only one to cast asperations about your intelligence, I wasnt the only one thinking it. It's like the wild west out there, you just play carefully and hope it all turns out. Just thicken your skin a lil pal, she'll be right, it's not personal.

And you did rant a little.

But it is possible to find insurance to anything. Just willing to pay for it is all.

There's more I could say here, but my point has been well and truly lost, and I'll not contribute to further loss.

Thank you to those of you with constructive posts.

Just on the exp thing. Have you thought of doing some hill climb events in sutton. Its only you on the track at a time. might give you some more confidence and skill?

    Excellent advice.
Hill Climbing will give you a reason for increased confidence in your ability to cope with higher than expected cornering forces(or will convince you that you have a great deal more to learn). Either way, it will give you a better set of parameters by which to assess your wisdom(or lack thereof)in attempting a Track Day, sans insurance cover.
A sensible driver will always be slower than a careless one(but he/she will get to spend more quality time on the track).:zlove::zlove:
