Came home from work today to discover a whopping screw lodged in the base of one of my new rear tyres. Had a screw lodged in one of the tyres that they replaced too. My god it shits me.

Has anyone else had this problem before? It seems really unlucky to happen to both tyres as I've never had this problem with a previous car. Makes me wonder if someone isn't doing it deliberately.

BTW, does anyone else use Nitrogen in their tyres? I've been since I got the new set and unless it's my imagine it seems to give a softer ride. I'm considering going back to normal air simply for convenience though.

Any idea if a screw in the tyre base can be removed/repaired? In my old tyre I simply left the screw in there and it just continually had a slow leak. With this new tyre I'd prefer to fix the problem if possible. Sorry to hear about your double penetration, Merc4hire.

i had a similar problem when i had my old beemer. i took it to bob jane and they put a bung in it. also done the same for my mum's car.
i think it cost around $25 and they had the car for about an hour.
    cheers

    $20 about right

If penetration is in the tread area it's repairable with a mushroom - a safe and legal repair.

The old plug method you're referring to BHP, is not street legal; kits are sold for of-road use.

    For safety's sake >>>

Don't use plugs, also it may void insurance claim in event of tyre-related accident.

Nope, not kidding. For all I know, the screw was probably in the tyre since I had the car. It was clearly very firmly entrenched and only had a very slight leak. It never really bothered me so I left it alone. I'll get this new bitch removed tomorrow though as it has a problematic leak.

I had the same thing in my old laser, I didn't know what it was, But i was losing pressure, I'd just put more air in that tyre every 2 weeks or so. 6 months later I finally got it fixed, and it took about 5 minutes to do, and cost $25.

As for bad luck, recently I copped 3 flats on my pushy in a period of 2 weeks!

Going off topic but are you a DS9 fan, SpaceFrog? I used to love that show. Easily the best Trek series.
